Re: GWR "stone"

They are unavailable here in Norway too. Vallejo Model Color 70.843 (cork brown) was a very good match on my Bachmann Highley signal box. Thank you for sharing this tip! :D

Re: A DIY Material

Yes, mine are 12mm thick and all you need to cut them is a knife. They can be glued with ordinary PVA, giving a very strong bond. They are available in thicknesses ranging from 6mm to 50mm. The price here in Norway is a bit on the steep side, but I would never use anything else again!

Re: A DIY Material

This sounds like the boards I use for my baseboard! It is an XPS core with a glass fibre/cement surface on both sides. Here in Norway they are called foam core wetroom wall boards. We have two products, one called called Tetti, the other called Litex. Hope this helps!

End2end, the photos are lost, and so is my backup. I may simply take new pictures.

Mountain, yes they are resin, and the straightening job was very easy! They certainly don't have me on teir list any more! :x

Re: Tom's Workbench

One of the chimneys on my Hornby Skaledale Goathland Station was at an alarming angle ( ), so something had to be done. Some years ago I made a couple of jacks to use when setting up parts for milling. This was used to press the chimney into position while heating the chimney with a heat gun...

Re: Track cleaning

If it is a graphite stick I can assure you that it works very well! I wouldn't really call it a cleaner, but it certainly does improve power pick-up!

Re: Is Cooper-Craft dead?

Unless there are a lot of seriously mistaken people there, I wouldn't order from the Coopercraft website. There are allegations that people order (and pay for) plastic kits that they never receive. I ordered a couple of kits in February 2013, but the kits I paid for never arrived. Trying to get in ...

Re: Tom's Workbench

After Photobucket ruined all my posted photos, I am trying a new site. Here's my latest uncoupling tool. It's simply a bent wire fastened to a torch with heat-shrink tubing. It's so much easier to use than my previous ones without lights!

Re: Model Rail magazine

I must say I agree with GWR-fan. This article is only about fitting Kadees to the stock running on his own layout Polwyddelan. As such it simply says that there are other alternatives to the tension-lock couplers.

To be honest, I would not bother trying! That would be extremely difficult to do!

Re: Weird Stuff On The railways. What Have You Seen?

We have just returned from a wonderful week in Tuscany! At the railway station I noticed that the rails were sprayed with white paint! http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u138/rosenblad_photos/20170515_122516_zpsmturjqvw.jpg I can only imagine that it's meant to reflect the sun as a way to cool the r...

Re: Oxford Rail Wagons

D605Eagle' I agree entirely with your view on the couplings! The reason is that they use the Hornby type (or equivalent) with the long-reach hook. Remove the original, and stick a Bachmann type in the NEM-pocket instead, and you solve the problem! I do the same with all Hornby models with NEM-shafts...
