Weird Stuff On The railways. What Have You Seen?

Post by Tiddles »

Thought I would start a thread for the weird, unusual and different sights on and around Britain's railway systems.

I will start with what I saw today when parked in Didcot station car park.

1. A blue Thomas like tank engine in the railway centre.
2. Long train of military flats all empty apart for one with two Scorpion tanks on it.
3. An HST set going to London with the buffet car behind the lead power car instead of the normal position between 1st class and 2nd class carriages.

Long time ago now and I doubt it would even be possible with modern stock. In a power failure at Birmingham New Street, two empty three car DMUs pushing two totally lifeless, fully loaded 4 car EMUs far enough through the Wolves end tunnel for them to roll on into the open and across the section gap. From the noise and the clag that it created I doubt they did many more miles before going in for engine exchanges.

That looks like them. Normally all the army stuff at didcot is in sand camo so the green dose stand out. The petrol wagons where there too, probably off to Bicster.

Don't be silly, he said what have you seen not what you would like to see ;)

It was a Thomas weekend last sat/sun so it's understandable for TTTe to be there ;)

Nothing particularly weird on the railways. Just the usual, 5x 66's at Didcot and the occasional weed killing/rail head treatment trains also at Didcot.

interesting freight load from 0.26

What an excelent vid, thanks for posting! Notice how to grooves have been cut into the tunnel roof so they can squeeze double stacked containers through there.

Today I saw the perfect small layout train.

It consisted of class 66 (66070) and a bogie low loader wagon. There was a tail light on the wagon and it entered Didcot from the Reading main line.

There was also a yellow class 31 with 4 yellow coaches and was being controlled from the DVT end.

Here's a couple I've seen recently:

GBRf convoy - 4 locos, one of which was Rainbow 66720, plus two barrier coaches.

I saw what I think is a Class 66 pass through Skipton station about 5 times.

Well I can't say I have seen anything weird recently, but maybe something rare, well I say rare I mean rare for this neck of the woods, infact I can only recall one instance in the last ten years prior to this year, normally they don't come within forty miles of were I was standing......

Virgin Trains and EMT struck a deal to run a Liverpool Lime Street-St Pancras and St Pancras-Liverpool Lime Street extra for the FA Cup Final on 5th/6th May, these are my shots of the ECS Workings from/to Derby (although I did see all four ECS and passenger workings).

You sure it was the same one, they're like grey squirrels, common as muck and wiping out the home grown species!
