Leaving aside issues of gauge and personal preferences for brands, a GWR based layout should in my view have a 57xx or similar, and a Hall/Manor/Grange (I have all three and still can't tell the difference between them). After listening to the experts and please don't take that the wrong way if your not an expert but you certainly know a lot more than me. Others need to provide some input now. If you consider train movement (you say it will be live) then a loco with four coaches would start with it's tail at one edge of the board and move just far enough before the loco ran off the other end of the board for it's tail to reach the centre of the board...

It's going to depend on how much of New Street Station you intend to build - and even more on how much space you have. That's only about £2m - not much more than a much more modest property in London. I know you would have to give up the solid traffic, pollution, and noise if you bought it - but it seems a bit of a bargain really.

Noch and Preiser both sell Grim Reapers, Funeral processions, Gorillas, Ladies of the Night, etc etc. Someone somewhere must have put one or more of them on a platform? Apparently not.
