Yeah, I've been looking at alternatives at the Stafford Model Railway Exhibition this weekend, oddly enough. Clearly the Select realised this and decided not to play nice
Is the Select firmware up to date - check the first number you see on power up. It will be followed by 30 then 03. If not 16 or 20 then contact Hornby CS to get it updated for around £15. Well worth the money to improve it.
