Re: Powercab to track connection
Where's the hum coming from - loco, handsset, handset connection panel (whatever the code for that is <g>) or the PSU? I've got a Powercab and everything is pretty quiet - if you manage to generate a short (point wiring not quite up to scratch, for example, and guess how I found that out...) and you...

Re: DCC Help needed re points power
The most likely reason for a peco point motor not firing fully is incorrect alignment. It would be better to power the accessory decoders from a seperate supply - I have wired a 'points bus' under the baseboard, for example, which is powered by a Hornby DC controller (total cost a few bob for 24 gau...

Re: dcc points advice
Yes, I have some of what you ask about. I have Peco finescale electrofrog points, with (currently) the following in use or recently used - NCE Powercab control (Hornby Select and Elite now in spares box) Hornby acc decoder on one group, Bachmann Dynamis acc decoder on two groups of points, PL-13 swi...
Re: DCC faq
Sorry, this is way late to comment on an old thread, but I finally decided to read the DCC FAQ and when I read this I had to go 'whoa, hold on a moment......'' Q4) Can I connect scenic lighting (LEDs) to my Dcc track? A1) LEDs use Dc voltage, if you use Ac it will most likely burn the LED out due to...

Re: Select amd N Guage
The Hornby site routinely blocks - or 'tries to block' would be more accurate - anything that relates to other manufacturers, to the point that it is very difficult to have a sensible discussion... I would strongly recommend anyone in need of help to make sites like this one their first port of call...

Re: Which Decoder to use?
Another vote for the Powercab from me too! It's as others have said, (listen to Flashbang <g>) - something that manufacturers should perhaps make more of in their PR stuff - controllers, loco decoders, accessory decoders etc are pretty well all interchangeable, there is no need at all to stick to on...

Re: Point Wiring for DCC
I'm editing my original post again, as I have more info - I no longer need help, but I'm posting this to save the next guy a bit of angst...I hope! Bits in bold are comments, normal type comes from my original post PL-13's on Peco motors, code 75 medium electrofrog points, the two small bits of wir...

Re: Bromsgrove Models
Well, here's another boring rec. I wanted an SB3a for my Powercab system, emailed John to ask when they'd be in, got an email right back saying 'tomorrow - order one now and it'll be right back to you' and it was connected up and driving a loco around the track less than 48 hrs later. I suppose John...

Re: Dynamis decoder with Peco and Hornby points
Thanks Flash, that's an interesting quote from the manual - the Dynamis decoder I bought from Hattons came with a double sided A3 sheet (divided into 4 A4 pages of text) and doesn't include this information, in fact I'd argue the instruction sheet is contradictory on this score. As for the manual yo...

Re: Dynamis decoder with Peco and Hornby points
Okay, Got it working – thanks for the assistance Flash. The problem was the instruction on p1 under ‘Rapid setup’ that says to set the output mode switch to K83 for solenoid motors – it should be set to “user” so the CV3-6 values can be read. As far as I can tell, having tried both Peco PL-10s and H...

Re: Dynamis decoder with Peco and Hornby points
okay, wired up PWR A and B to a seperate controller, checked 18 V ac is supplied to the two connections using voltmeter, Elite connected to other pair via track socket on Elite. Hornby motors will change once, but then buzz as if the decoder is trying to push them further than they want to go. No fu...

Re: Dynamis decoder with Peco and Hornby points
Cheers Flash, I had a feeling you might pop up <g> Yes, I've put link wires in between the paired sockets and connected to the relevant outputs using choc bloc connectors - ie 2 wires from prog connections on Elite to one side of choc bloc terminal, paired wires from the other side into the connecto...

Dynamis decoder with Peco and Hornby points
Okay, I've had a layout using Elite controller, Hornby points, Hornby track, Hornby acc decoder. It all worked, as a practise. Now I#m building a rather larger layout, and as usual finding that having a whole spare room for it doesn't mean you can have a 4 road shed, turntable, 2 big stations, dock,...

Re: Point Wiring for DCC
TBH I find that Peco drawing confusing! Well said Flashbang - in fact, of the main manufacturers I'm tending towards the view that Peco have the best kit, and the worst instructions... the instruction leaflet with Peco point is quite enough to make you settle on having a single very large oval as y...

Re: DCC Bus Wire Installation
Cheers Flash, I spent a year or so building an 8 x 6 test layout on return to the hobby, and went straight for DCC, a house move has given me the chance to build a decent sized layout in the last few months.... one of the things I tried on layout 1 was copper droppers soldered to the rails, and I fo...
