Re: Scratch building a 4 CEP unit.
If you can find a copy of the model Railway Constructor for Jan 1961 there is an article in there to make a 4CEP from Kitmaster coaches showing you exactly where to cut and join. As hornby coaches are similar in size to Kitmaster this should help. If you cant find a copy DM me.

Re: Copydex alternatives?
It seems that liquid latex - as used for mould making - can be thinned with distilled water or ammonia. If it can be made runny enough then this could be used as a substitute for Copydex.

Re: Copydex alternatives?
I dont know if you can use pure latex for this. I know it sets flexible as it is used for mould making. Does anyone know if it is water soluable when liquid, as it would be too thick otherwise?

Re: LMS Crimson Lake
The nearest match I could find is Humbrol gloss no 20. Should be applied over a Red Oxide/bauxite colour undercoat to give the right effect as it is transparent.

Re: LMS short wheelbase coaches?
The LMS took over a number of 50' coaches from the LNWR which lasted into BR days - some available as kits from Ratio. Similarly they inherited some 48ft clerestory coaches from the Midland - some also available as kits from Ratio. These lasted until just before nationalisation. There were also some...

Re: Would you complain?
Contact the seller, explain that it was misdescribed. You may be able to negotiate a partial refund if you want to keep it. The seller probably doesn't want the hassle of you returning it and refunding you the whole amount you paid and then relisting it.

Hornby/Lima tender drives
I'm after a little help please. Does anyone know of a supplier of replacement scale profile wheels with the gear wheel attatched for the range of Hornby and Lima tender drive units? I have asked Ultrascale but they are unable to help.

If this was a new model, you should take/send it back. If second hand then negotiate with the seller.
