Re: Tender drives. . I never ever thought
On the subject of tender drives, these loco's have been sat in a box since 2004. Last week I thought I would take the plunge and rather than have them sat on isolated track in a shed, I converted them all to DCC. They all run really well, so if I want a rest from all of my sound fitted steamers, I ...

Hornby R378 - 4-4-0 DCC install
Hi, anyone installed a DCC decoder into a R378 Hornby loco? had the tender off, isolating the motor brushes looks a doddle, to spade connectors and done, ditto getting at the track feed - same two connectors, cut the wires and strip both ends then insert the decoder. only issue I see is there is sod...

Re: Tender drives. . I never ever thought
oh it can be done, have done a few N gauge models, just way harder than it needs to be - all it requires is the motor isolated fully then a small brass linking strip (that can be replaced to convert, job done - its the ones done on the cheap that are needlessly difficult I go outside and rant at the...

have had issues with RFID tags and locomotives, largely due to the metal chassis.
bought some "anti metal" RFID tags that are meant to be good for this
what do the instructions state? "Do not apply to metal"

should be good, have found its wonderful to take a plan and upscale it a bit, not really making trains longer, but just spacing stuff out more, wider curves etc and space to breathe
sounds a really good size that loft good with natural lighting too

'nother trip to Wickes when on my way out to a gaming club, Thursdays seem to provide the ideal chance as I go past anyway. now have the timber framing for the other long side (three more 2'x4' modules, stuff for the legs, bolts, washers etc), goal is those three assembled as framing over the bank h...

the lack of fundamental spares is I suspect down to the move to online box shifters, the model shops of old usually had a row of little drawers with the various screws, brackets, the odd spare motor, traction tyres, brushes, spring etc that the box shifters don't want to bother with as its too fiddl...

Nicely done, have seen a fair few model buildings, and the warhammer crowd are terrible for it, where the walls are waaaay to thin to look credible, nice to have a bit of surface detailing

Re: Failure and restarting
After a bit of a faff I managed to get the Arduino Mega to respond (if anyone else has a Chinese clone that is report "timeout" when programming, try reloading the bootloader). managed to get DCC-EX loaded, a motor shield working and one of the cheaper WiFi boards added. miracle was once l...

have a pair of N gauge Lima class 86 (ish). clear traction tyres what have zero grip, the poor things can just about manage three coaches on level track main issue with such things, other than the dirt they leave, and the lack of electrical pick up on those wheels, and the look, apart from them is t...

Re: Tender drives. . I never ever thought
Traction tires can burn in the circle of hell created specifically for them last time I had an OO layout the trackwork loved traction tires, the somewhat sharp switch blades ripped them apart. benefit of DCC running was when I was far too lazy to go and rescue the Hornby Cl66 that was spinning both ...
