Think I've sussed it. Hornby did a limited edition of Sir Nige in the 90s as it was preserved at the time, and for some odd reason somebody has put a body from one of those on a black wheeled chassis.

That's an ex Hornby Dublo version made by Wrenn and sold under the Triang-Wrenn branding (little w after the date), but yes like that but with black wheels. Well my 59 turned up at last and I'm gobsmacked by it. The level of detail and the quality of the detail is as good if not better than the very best bachmann locos I've seen to date, and it cost quite a bit less than £150 delivered. If Dapol can do that, then why can't anybody else?
