Straffle-mmurin900's New Layout - PICTURE UPDATE 2/7/07

Post by mmurnin900 »

Well the new quest has begun. Basboards are being constructed today. They will be 2 5ftX16inch. I will be using a method i picked up at bangor. There are metal blades soldered to the track, I am soldering wires to them and the ballasting over, I do the same on both sides an use a connector box to link them.

The track plan is very simple:
Image
Hopefully You will understand.
The coloured sie will be the open side, the white will be enclosed.
Here is a rundown of what is what
Track=Black Lines, one visable loop and a shunting line. Then a storage area hidden.
Green= Football regeneration area
Grey= Run down factory area
Purple= Buildings, Old with brokn windows, some scratch built
Black= Parking area
White Lines= Define football pitch and changing area
Blue circles= Sand or other aggregate
Red square= Excavator to fill wagons with aggergate

I have worked out that I will be able to have 3/4 trains on tracks at any one time. I will run
White Rose
Heljan 33 With Grain wagons
Hornby 37 With British steel wagons
Shunter with Some plank wagons suitable for their use.

I plan to pick up
British steel wagons
Plank Wagons
Class 66 Freightliner
5 or more extra shell tankers

Track should be laid by the end of the week. Photo update when the baseboards arrive.
Thanks to Kiran for the name

Well maurice, I knocked that together in 5 mins, ran it past my dad and the I was ready to go.
The reason for hiding most of it away is that It will reduce the aount of space needed. In the hidden area I will be able to form
trains and power the layout. Then I will be able to focus my attention the the 5X16 that matter.
And I wll be using peco code 100 concrete- Kiran will have rights to most of this layout!
Cheers

Nice idea for a layout - guessing it'll be full of details :wink:

It'll look more like a line running through an area, rather than a loop of track - therefore more realistic (in my opinion anyway.....)

Today was nice so I took a board out and got cracking. The board is now marked out accuratly with buildings and track.
The largest Change is a brewery.
Metcalfe Brewery
It will be based on Guinness in Belfast, but not be branded, although I may chose an English Beer. The Brewery Will be here
Image
One Shunting line will lead up to it. There it will meet 2 fork trucks, and 2 men loading palets. One Truck will be transporting empties, The other pallets to the wagons.
Fork lift Truck at bottom, volvo near top
As in my other Thread, wagons have already been bought that will suit (BRT Grain). I am now in search for some, flat wagons for pallets or a specific brewery wagon.
Another addition will be 2 half relief terraced houses. These will be backing onto a building site, with the volvo excavator mentioned above. In the top left will be a road bridge behind a disused factory (Scratch built). Under the bridge will be a burnt out car.
And the fooball pitch has been mentioned before and will go ahead.
Enjoy

My main worry is points, I am using concrete track, and I think they look out of place. Most of the board has been filled with run down buildings and building work. Thaks for the tips. Look foward to seeing you too!
