Now this is something I know very little about. A member of the family has been working up a neat O gauge freight shunting layout, and recently added a 4W BR CCT, which simply won't run on the curved roads of the points, this vehicle simply binds in the curve. Now I assume that the pragmatic cure would be some judicious gauge narrowing of the wheelsets; the sole curvature on the layout is that of the points.
Is this a commonplace with long wheelbase four wheel vehicle RTR O gauge models, and can anyone with experience advise on ideal wheelset gauge narrowing?
O gauge Peco set track and RTR O rolling stock compatability
Re: O gauge Peco set track and RTR O rolling stock compatability
If I knew the answer I would let you know. Don't think anyone on here knows. I only know what some narrow gauge items will turn on. I do have one solution I use with narrow gauge, and that is to fit smaller wheels, as smaller wheels fitted to vehicles will allow them to turn a little sharper with longer wheelbase rolling stock. Easing the check rails (Wingrails and stockrails, or guardrails as they can be called) can allow certain longer wheel items to turn better, but part of the issue is the wheelbase is too long for the diameter of the curve on the point so the usual thing I do is to use smaller wheels and if that does not work, slightly alter the wheelbase. Ideally, if the axles are allowed to turn and are not rigidly set as 90° to the chassis, this can also solve things which is what Triang and then Hornby did to allow their long wheelbase wagons and vans negotiate first radius curves in 00.
I am asking 0 gauge modellers I know if they have solutions.

Re: O gauge Peco set track and RTR O rolling stock compatability
Thanks, and 'me too' : and now my 'go to O gaugeist' is back from Japan to advise, it's a known problem with the smallest radius Peco point. Basically you just fiddle around with wheelset gauging to fnd a solution, and if you cannot, that's because the point really is too tight.

Or the item of rolling stock is too long...
