Hornby extra long CCT Van review

Post by aleopardstail »

one of these arrived yesterday, stuck up a review and some running shots

not the most free rolling due to how they have done the axles (doesn't have pin point bearings, but does have a fair bit of side to side play as a result), looks good though and managed my 2nd radius inclined section nicely

The Parkside kit on pinpoint axle wheelsets 'isn't happy' below 24" radius, though free rolling on the straight very nicely...

so far its managed a 20" curve.. moving slowly, and its not bad on the straights, ham fisted assembly means its not as free rolling as it could be.

worst case it ends up in the station, whenever that is built, to shunt between platforms or be mobile terrain. I've got this Hornby one though to add to trains and it performs wonderfully

Only found this out by trial on a friend's layout with a 24" ruling radius, it was oscillating on the curves at 'fitted freight' speed. No problems on my 36" radius. I suspect that a small reduction in back to back would be helpful if it was permanently on a 24" radius layout.

very probably, though to be honest allowing the axles to pivot slightly with a light spring would probably help too

was not that surprised the Hornby one can do 2nd radius though, even if under protest
