Leopard's Bufferstop Challenge
Off to a slow start, but at least off to a start.
"da plan"
12" square plywood offcut, the track bit is a double track mainline section, on a raised bed about 2" raised (using stripwood offcut front and back on another plywood deck). the rear of this gets a siding, with a bufferstop obviously, this would normally be lower but here will be slightly higher. all the track will be on XPS (offcuts) but not cork (don't have and spare), rear probably just two layers of XPS.
I can spare a yard of track for this
the back will be a higher retaining wall as thats a nice visual break and explains the verticality of the thing. the front being a lower retaining wall down to a road area. no buildings as I want to use this as a photography backdrop, also hence won't have sides, ends will be capped with something, probabyl greyboard and painted.
ok, progress..
the base has been found, the trackbed offcut found and cut to size, stripwood offcut cut to size and each bit of plywood has a bit of stripwood glued to it. to be glued together tomorrow and ideally the trackbed and maybe even the track added.
its also going to be a scenic test section, nothing here will be powered though (did ponder a red lamp on the buffer stop, probably not really needed, a 1930's one won't really be visible in daylight)

The ideal 'Test' projects.
I like just rough outlines as to what is going to appear ...... Plenty of time ?

Re: Leopard's Bufferstop Challenge
hopefully can get the actual track part of it done pretty quickly, don't think anything needs buying to get track down, or for that matter using the remains of dingleberry's supplies getting the track painted and ballasted either. heck even have point rodding I could do with experimenting with as well.
walls etc will take a bit longer but I think, at least hope, its doable

Re: Leopard's Bufferstop Challenge
board made, XPS down, and painted
needs to dry and can then add the track

Re: Leopard's Bufferstop Challenge
while downstairs earlier, I finished the track
its an imaginative layout scheme as you can see
next up..
aim is the mounts in place, likely one or two runs, thinking along the rear of the mainline (so its away from the drop at the front for maintenance staff). the rods come later but mounts in place then can start with a bit of paint

Ooooh, I used some of that when I could see !!
It certainly adds another dimension to trackwork.

A very different diorama. Such a variety of styles and themes in this competition.

Re: Leopard's Bufferstop Challenge
Bit of progress, video out at some point, made a start with the retaining wall. 12" long, 40mm high to the base of the trackbed - will need (and will get) a short wall above that to be added later.
render of the central section, turns out making brick patterns isn't all that hard to do

Phew, I'm not the only one who's been stalled.
Good to see progress.

Re: Leopard's Bufferstop Challenge
yes was getting worried for a bit here, amazingly they printed in a usable way, bit uneven along the bottom edge, well a bit of pavement and some general grot will hide that. should get them primed tomorrow
Re: Leopard's Bufferstop Challenge
"General Grot" sounds a suitable name for Lofty, his record of usually very
dirty run down scenes.
Pristine always looks wrong, unless it's a new car on delivery !!
