Have just joined today!

Post by Prescotian »

I have recently launched my own, not for profit, light hearted website called Train Mad Grandad after a comment from my grandson to distinguish which grandad he was talking about.

Website URL http://www.trainmadgrandad.uk/

I have found retirement a bit difficult to adapt to as I enjoyed being useful. I am a railway modeller (RM MAG Oct 2014) and was a guard on the Kent and East Sussex Railway for some ten years.

I would be grateful if you could tell your members about me and my website.

I have also attached a flyer for your noticeboard as a docx.

Many thanks in anticipation

Hi Prescotian

Welcome to the forum.

Prescotian, I wonder if you live or come from the good old Prescot town of Lancashire.

Welcome.
Your geographical spread is quite high, Kettering to Forest of Dean.
I say that as an ex resident of Northamptonshire.

I had no real problems from retirement - Always too much model making
to do. I am slowing down now I'm well past 80.

Yes I have just looked at your website and the answer is yes you do. Huyton station closed in 1958 and is long gone now. I am an old Whistonian, well someone has to be.

That's a neat little website to rummage through.

You clearly know about volunteering. The only problem I have had in retirement is that you don't have recognised entitlement to a day off, part time working or annual leave, and there tends to be disappointment when someone calls and are told "Sorry, day off today / hybrid working / it's an unbank holiday / I am taking annual leave."' .

Welcome Trevor. :)
I've bookmarked your website so I can have a good look at it later.
As for boredom in retirement, I have no idea how I ever had time for work!

If I might make an observation concerning your website and exhibitions. You mention Rainford Stoops, should it be Rainhill Stoops. To the best of my abilities in remembering the exhibitions that I have attended in Rainhill they were not held in the Stoops but either in St Anne's Church, in the early days and then later in Rainhill Village Hall both in the centre of Rainhill. Hope that this is of some help to you.

I did try to contact you via your website, but there isn't any way to contact you.
