control panel and three way point

Post by Mark19 »

Hi all I am struggling to decide how to indicated my Peco 3 way point that has 2 tortoise point motors attache named PM-08 and PM-09. my problem is, Pm-08 Closed and Pm-09 closed both indicate green this is great moving on to track 2(middle) I need PM-08 thrown which indicates red, Pm-09 closed indicates green (on track 1) onto track 3 Pm-08 thrown indicates red for the middle track Pm-o9 thrown Indicates Red for the track3. the middle track is the problem as I have a red and green on two different routes as shown in the image any advice would be great
Thanks
Mark

Why not move the LED's further left onto the straight parts of the tracks and dispense with the one sitting atop the point on the plan?
Each lit LED will be green or red according to which way the point is set.
I hope that makes sense. :?
Thanks

First thing, is your 3 way Peco code 100 symmetrical or the asymmetrical? I've wired the latter 3 way points with Tortoise motors, using 2 wafer rotary switches. One wafer works the motor the second, the lights. I only use one green for each route not seeing the need for red.

Using one LED for each route is the way to go.

- Connect the "Track 1" LED to the "closed" output of PM08.
- Connect the "Track 2" LED to the "closed" output of PM09.
- Connect the "Track 3" LED to the "thrown" output of PM09
- Feed the common terminal of the PM09 switch from the "thrown" output of PM08.

Using rotary switches is all well and good, but then the LEDs are useless as they only tell you the state of the switch, not the actual position of the points. A better alternative is to use the second pole of the switch to change the frog polarity, using the switch on the motor itself to operate the indicator lights.
