For many years in rural areas I've been seeing the same type of outside light and wondered if a 00 gauge version is available.
This is the light.
Forgive me if I've asked this before. My brain seems to be doing it's own thing these days.
Thanks

Re: Is this rural light available?
I am fairly familiar with most lights available from china (often seen in other UK sites as resale), so one that is precisely or even close to that, is not available to my knowledge. However, I think a good approximation could be made easily with a 3mm LED!

Re: Is this rural light available?
I think the technical term is... oh bugger.
Not sure I could get it the way I want it if I made it myself.
Thanks

Re: Is this rural light available?
Just measured the one by our kitchen door. The 1.8mm warm white is a better approximation to it in 4mm/00 scale. The 3mm would be pretty much to scale in 0
Bend the legs as close as you can get to the body then push them through the wall either side of the corner. Not quite the right shape, but from 3' can you tell! It might be possible to file a little off the corners to give it a more cylindrical top.Growing old, can't avoid it. Growing up, forget it!

Re: Is this rural light available?
Is there a way to make the LED milky like the original light?
Thanks

Re: Is this rural light available?
If you are going to paint the solid body black, start to sanding its surface, and see how it looks before painting. just sanding might make it look white rather than transparent. If that's not enough, you could tray a thin layer of white paint, depends how much spare light output it has. We have two similar ones, one is white the other is transparent. I think the translucent finish is to hide all the dead bugs that collect inside them, the clear one looks disgusting and I won't be getting up to clean it out until spring.

Hmm I've finally found something that isn't manufactured in 00.
Thanks

Re: Is this rural light available?
Never one to shy from a challenge, I nipped over to China this morning.
(Lumsdonia have a factory over there)
Spoke with the designers and they rustled up a new product!
Flew back this afternoon with the prototype sample and got it fitted at the garage worksite.
Now being demonstrated on the garage office.

Sod the light... I want to have a go of your instantanious transportation portal!
Looks good.
I have been trying to think of a white material to wrap around the bulb for that milky look. Still looking though.
Thanks

Re: Is this rural light available?
It looks brighter than it really is and is 'milky' when the power is off. Its fed by 12v but with a 10k resistor to dull down the brightness!
Its a clear 3mm led, filed in the cordless drill to remove the flange at the top and to square off the bottom. Sides were also filed to give a diffused light on the side, then painted with a wash of humbrol matt white. Leads and top rim painted with humbrol matt black. All in all, it took 10 minutes to make paint and fit!
Available as of tomorrow from Lumsdonia Sales Ltd.
