SECR C class

featured elsewhere on the forum but wanted to consolidate it here, this is a Bachmann C class RTR loco that was oringinally in the southern black livery but i prefered the SECR versions so repainted it in a new livery

Starting point:

SECR S class

Ongoing project at the moment but after reading in a book on the SECR that one of the C classes was converted into a tank engine and that Tri-ang had made this i imediatly wanted to make one of these. I managed to get one from eBay at a decent price but when it arrived it turned out that it had been repainted about 4 times so was caked in paint.

bit of oven cleaner and 24 hours later:

this has then had a coat of primer:

apart from this all i have had time to do it remove some of the hand rails and the smoke box dart and am currently in the process of adding new ones to give it a mor modern feel. I have also used filler to fill in the hole at the back which i belive is there for when the body was used on the clockwork verisons of this model.

hope to have an update for you soon

In the same SECR book i read about them having a terrier which was an exscuse to give this one ago as well

another good find on ebay this poor little loco arrived like this (its the same loco but two sides)

and again 24 hours in oven cleaner worked wonders:

see previous post (S class one) for a shot of it primed

SECR O1 class

This is my first resin kit, its made by Golden Arrow and its been a good learning experiance. The sevice from golden arrow has been brilliant with very helpful and freindly support.

anyway onto the build so far

ImageUntitled by alex3410, on Flickr

i will admit i am making a bit of a mess with the tender but i want it to look flush and there was a fair gap between the two parts needing allot of filler
ImageUntitled by alex3410, on Flickr

i have also taken out the top of the tender as i think the DCC chip will probably end up there

the main body has been primed and i have been fitting hand rails - before you look just remember this is essentially the first time i have fitted a loco from scratch

more updates to come when i get time! the plan is to get them all to a stage where i can mass paint them all in the base coat of green

Hi Alex3410,

That is one heck of a production line.
I'm certain there's much more work than you show to get those results.
Well done.

Thanks guys, things have stalled a little with the layout progressing but the main thing holding me back at the moment is not wanting to use my cheap temperamental airbrush to do the livery - I used it to weather the track and had no end of trouble with it!

New one is on my wish list will just have to see if I will have enough left after payday or if it's a Christmas list job

It's a 1:24 spitfire that I attempted a few months ago, I used to build a fair few Airfix kits and wanted to bag another go seeing how my skills had moved on after learnin so much railway modelling but the kit is a absolute pig  and for now at least it's on hold! I do have some other kits on my build list - top of which is four Sherman tanks to be used as loads on my layout

Some great work there. I'm looking forward to seeing how the Triang tank engine progresses.

I sympathize with you on the Boiler one piece handrails; they are bad enough to do in 0 Gauge never mind 00

Some of the goodies from the Hornby black Friday sale arrived and it let me play around with my new airbrush again :)

got everything all set up

first batch done

Foster & Co set of wagons

after:

and with the real coal load still drying

one thing i did learn is that my new airbrush is so much easier to clean then the cheap nasty Chinese one it replaced that alone is worth every penny but its so much nicer to use and you get allot more control over it as well so very very pleased

Thank you :D

things go allot faster doing them in bulk which helps, its also easier as i was able to mix up a larger paint batch rather then needing to do it in 3-4 sets
