Aylestone West 90's Mid kent.

Post by gmantree »

Hello all,

Welcome to Aylestone West, A 00 gauge layout that will be loosely based around Maidstone East in the 1990's, The layout is housed in my spare room and will be on three levels, the lowest of these is going to be a hidden fiddle yard and return loop, the mid level will house part of the mainline and connecting inclines then the top will house the station and yard.
construction started about three months ago but progress has been slow because of other modelling projects, as of today the fiddle yard is complete as is the return loop and i'm now working my way towards level two, a trackplan is a little hard to draw because the layout crosses itself in a few places and is on three levels.

A few photo's of progress.

Hi Graham,

After reading the opening text I was going to ask how you were moving between levels, but I think you have answered that with your final picture. I look forward to seeing your progress.

good luck with the build, looks like you have made a good start.
What sort of gradient are you looking at to get between levels?

hi, The gradient is roughly 1 in 37 at its steepest and lighter where possible, All the locos manage the inclines with fair sized trains.

Hello all,

Little bit more progress on the layout, i installed some more woodwork which will climb to the second level, this single line will give access from/to the mainline and return loop.
I also made a start on the lighting and cameras needed on the lower fiddle, still lots to do!

Some excellent carpentry and lighting skills to be seen. A good start.

Thankyou all for the comments,

Work is progressing slowly, Over the last few weeks i've built the next section of baseboards and laid associated track, also started work on a control panel for the lower pointwork which will be hidden so LED's are being fitted to show which route is set.
