Trumpton, 8x3ft N Gauge *UPDATED 19/03/07*

Post by theboyrob »

Here are a few pictures of my N Gauge Layout. The board measures 8ft x 3ft and has its own legs. Constructed from block board with a softer sundeala type board nailed on top of that. The theme is a main line station set in modern times somewhere on the ECML, with GNER 125/225's, Class 66 EWS and Class 158/170's frequent!

Still very early stage, most of track down and wired up. Next stage is ballasting which will start next weekend !

Great plan; you've made a good start 8)

Are you using setrack points? How does stuff run on them...any stalling?

All Peco Setrack. If i started again I would deinatly use the finer scale track with medium or large points as the setrack stuff is very unrealistic in the diameter of the curves. All my bigger loco's (Class 66/56/47) run perfect over all the insulfrog points, no stalls at all. I originally had a J94 saddle tank loco which stalled quite badly. I am going to stick with the heavier bigger loco's (Class 20 upwards)

I used to have a OO layout a long time ago so thought for now for the first N layout I would stick with setrack and see how I go. For my second layout in a few years time I will head down the flexitrack route and add a fiddle yard to when I have the space! :)

Nice layout !! When seeing this, makes you realise how much N gauge you can squeeze in to a relatively small space.

You've made a very good start indeed and it looks like my kind of layout... Can't wait to see it progress!

What's gonna' go in that big empty space in the middle? :D

good question craig!

The area by the switch box is going to be tunneled, and i think i will have a town complex on top of this area moving down to behind the station as it will eventually be a busy east coast mainline station. Will post mnay pics of this progresses! :)

Your layout is lookinf good so far :)

Trumpton, 8x3 ft N Gauge Modern layout. *Updated 17/12/06*

Few updated Pics :)

Overall view, note the goods yard has changed quite significantly. I will also be added another two sidings at the top of the picture near the top train. These will feed a ballast factory.

Ballast In good yards :)

There will be another two similar sized platformsto the left of the class 56, then two lines left again (see bigger picture, much easier :))

Very nice! You've made an excellent start. How did you make the platforms? Nice choice of beverage too - Pepsi Max all the way! :D

hehe just got one of those :D

Platforms:

320g card, knife, humbrol paints, pencil

Measured out the top piece, taped down the small white edges and painted the centre with humbroll dark gray paint.

Pulled off tape to show white bits, hehe :)

Bottom piece same size, pained brown, but scored 1cm from edge on either side then bent this at 90 degrees to provide the legs for the platform and correct height..

First piece stuck on top of second piece and viola !
