Fintry Viaduct - N Gauge Future Image

Post by rabbitaway »

My current layout Fintry Junction is almost complete (just the Hotel scene to finish) so I am starting work on a new layout and the intention is to link Fintry Junction and Fintry Viaduct together to increase the run length off scene on both. Fintry Junction which is currently a simple single track tail chaser will be linked to the to Fintry Viaduct to create long double running circuits.

Fintry Viaduct will be a layout set in the near future depicting a newly completed line. The scenic section will be about 3m long and include a striking modern viaduct and an out of town parkway station. I do not like modelling urban areas so this will be set in open countryside. This will be modelled as clean new build as again I prefer this style to the usual modern image grime effect.

Hopefully this will have the look of the CTRL or the proposed HS2 and I may be able to use some re-branded Japanese 1:150 models.

Starting the base boards this Sunday so I will post progress photos

I'll look forward to this, especially the 'clean and new' aspect.

Any plans or sketches to show us?

This is the inspiration for the viaduct on the new layout.

Baseboards moving forward

Corner board complete

Image

A few problems with levels being out for connection of the ends of the existing layout Fintry Junction but I have resolved this.

Image

The existing fiddle yard board to be converted with a small fiddle yard at the rear and scenic area at the front
Looking at the space the parkway station will have to be just one end with the footbridge as a scenic break

Image

The gap to be filled with the open frame drop board with the viaduct

This will be at an angle

Yikes! Maybe it's the photograph, but it looks like you have far more space to play with than I imagined from previous pictures on your thread - this is going to be quite an extension :)

Hows the hotel coming on btw?

Thats one mighty viaduct you're planning there Rabbitaway & nice space for it to fill. What scale height & length are you planning to build to?

Will definately be keeping a keen eye on this thread.

Steve

Wow, this definitely looks to be one of the best builds this forum has ever seen! :
Can't wait to see it finished, and some nice fast modern trains would look stunning on it!

Cheers,

Hi Southern Boy
The photo does give the impression of more space than there actually is the gap is about 1.4m
The hotel for Fintry Junction is coming along slowly with window openings and cladding in stone embossed styrene card complete, it is currently “roof less”

Steve
The viaduct deck is going to be about 90cm and I will work to about a 3 to 1 ratio for length to height as these proportions are pleasing to the eye

Ste and All
Thanks for the support

Basic structure of drop board now complete

The raised board at the back is for the fiddle yard lines

The viaduct frame is next and is likely to be plywood covered in styrene sheet sprayed with dusted paint

I'm not usually into N gauge (or Diesel Era's) but I just couldn't let this one pass by! This looks like it'll be a corker! and your idea of the Viaduct...wow.....just, wow.

I can visualise how that's going to look in N gauge - and it's going to look very impressive.

Looking forward to pictures of this evolving - it's certainly something beyond what I've been used to seeing from Fintry, and in that respect it's an exciting development :)

Not much progress over the last few months but I do have the double circuits running via the fiddle yard lines. Intermediate fiddle yard lines still to be laid

All fully tested and trains running well over the inclines and crossovers

The scenic section will have code 55 concrete sleeper track once the viaduct is built
