Compare HST - R2701 & R2296
Compare HST - R2701 & R2296
Guys,
I am looking to buy an HST in Blue/Grey/Yellow livery. Both of the above sets, whilst not current, fit the bill and I can source them with a little effort. Is there any difference in the detail level between these? I have seen a video of the 2701 that appears to show opening doors. Does the 2296 have this?
Thnks for your input.

R2296 is the old model (motor on bogie, working headlight only, poorly fitting plastic light moulding)

Yes, as Hairyhandedfool said, the R2296 is the older, inferior tooling.
R2701 is Hornbys newer super-detail model, directional lighting, cab lighting, centrally mounted motor, a real beast ! I have noticed mind, that the blue/grey version is out of stock everywhere and attracting rather high prices on Ebay.

I got mine from the Hornby shop in Margate - the hornby website and shop are different - even then it was not as cheap as it was the last time I visted

I have noticed that I'm probably going to have to pay a premium. It would be great to see this back in next year, but I can't see it somehow. From what I've heard they will know by now what they are producing for release next year, but they won't say for another 6 months. Shame really. It seems that the blue/grey livery is the most popular in the HSTs.DrStroganoff wrote:Yes, as Hairyhandedfool said, the R2296 is the older, inferior tooling.

I stumbled across one in a shop last week. Rather happy

They didn't have another one in did they? I've checked all my local shops and no one has any left.

Sorry matey, it was the last one. He also had a couple of the very rare bachmann MK2 tso's, must not get much passing trade. I know how hard they are to get, couldn't believe my luck.
I even managed to source a blue/grey buffet car, had to ring around a few places for that one though.
There will be shops that still have them, its just getting lucky I suppose.
Best of luck with your search!
Regards,
Lee.

Well over £200 is beyond what I'm prepared to pay.
Shame as I would really like this, but I suspect it will come back into production in the next year or so.

Over £200 quid? Is that what they are commanding on flea bay?
