Re: British Rail 1988 to 1990 - Weathering class 58s
Well I’ve finally got round to starting my layout thread. Basically the layout has been under construction for about a year now, so track laying and scenery is well under way so there’s plenty to see.
The layout is two horse shoes, one above the other connected by a helix at each end. So trains run across the top horse shoe, disappear down a helix, secretly run back across to the other side, up the other helix and then back across the top board again. Running slowly at heavy freight speed it takes approximately 2.5 minutes to complete a circuit.
Ill leave you with some pics showing construction from last year to now. If you want more info you can check out my YouTube channel which has loads of vids on it dating back to March 2010.

Hello, very impressive stuff going on there chap, natty job on the spiral storage/upper-lower level run to and the scenery seems pretty fine. Look forward to more of this. Do you have a layout schematic? (apologies if it's in the layout planning section and i haven't come across it)
nice stuff and thanks for posting

I don't really have any schematics for the layout but i did do a video following a train around the whole layout.Terrier wrote:Hello, very impressive stuff going on there chap, natty job on the spiral storage/upper-lower level run to and the scenery seems pretty fine. Cracking layout. Nice loft space as well. Were the helix a pain to construct? I some studding or bolts on each side. Is that for tension or support?
OO in the loft. Lenz 90 making it go.

I like it mate. I remember this era well. Did you make the platforms yourself?

Re: British Rail 1988 to 1990
Thanks, it was annoying cutting the physical circles but I used threaded rod and nuts to install it, making things much easier. This gives me infinite adjustability so I can keep tweaking it.lozstlouis wrote:Cracking layout. Nice loft space as well. Were the helix a pain to construct? I some studding or bolts on each side. Re: British Rail 1988 to 1990
Today it was warm enough to get into the loft so I had a running session and took some pics.
My class 31 rolls into the station
Still working on the grass in this area
Class 47 'TITAN' waits to depart
The 31 rumbles up the mainline
Passing on the mainline
An overall view of the station area
TITAN heads in the tunnel

I like the look of this one, my favorite era and a great use of the helix system to extend the running lines.
