Well I’ve finally got round to starting my layout thread. Basically the layout has been under construction for about a year now, so track laying and scenery is well under way so there’s plenty to see.

The layout is two horse shoes, one above the other connected by a helix at each end. So trains run across the top horse shoe, disappear down a helix, secretly run back across to the other side, up the other helix and then back across the top board again. Running slowly at heavy freight speed it takes approximately 2.5 minutes to complete a circuit.

Ill leave you with some pics showing construction from last year to now. If you want more info you can check out my YouTube channel which has loads of vids on it dating back to March 2010.

Hello, very impressive stuff going on there chap, natty job on the spiral storage/upper-lower level run to and the scenery seems pretty fine. Look forward to more of this. Do you have a layout schematic? (apologies if it's in the layout planning section and i haven't come across it)

Yes both helixes are home made out of MDF.

Thanks.

I don't really have any schematics for the layout but i did do a video following a train around the whole layout.

Cracking layout. Nice loft space as well. Were the helix a pain to construct? I some studding or bolts on each side. Is that for tension or support?
OO in the loft. Lenz 90 making it go.

I like it mate. I remember this era well. Did you make the platforms yourself?

Thanks, it was annoying cutting the physical circles but I used threaded rod and nuts to install it, making things much easier. This gives me infinite adjustability so I can keep tweaking it.

I like the look of this one, my favorite era and a great use of the helix system to extend the running lines.
