New Railway Modellers Shop

Post by S_Jay »

Hi all,

I just wanted to point out what great service I got from the Shop that pays for all this. (I think)

Yesterday morning I ordered a DVD and video game from Amazon, first class.
A little while later I ordered the last bits of my Thomas layout.

This morning around 10am, a brown paper box arrived with my Hornby parts! I'm still waiting on Amazon to deliver.

Great service, great price I shall be using them again.

:) :D ;)

Might be a commercial thing. Not allowed to sell Hornby kit to the US/Canada.

Still works great for us in the UK :)

Insurance probably - our policy specifically excludes sales to the US, on pain of cover being terminated.

OK, if it is insurance, why do other model shops have no restrictions shipping to North America? :|

They are prepared to pay the premiums I expect. I'm not saying that this is certain, only that that has been my experience. The company we insure with is one third of the cost of the next cheapest for Product Liability cover. I never followed it up with other insurers I had quotes from, but it could be that they too would be cheaper with that exclusion, I don't know. Just in case anyone thinks Product Liability is irrelevant to model railways, just think what would happen if a small child managed to choke on a small removable component - unlikely admittedly, but then that's what insurance is all about.

I will shortly be looking for cover for a model railway venture, so I'll know more then.

Cheers

No need for that, I found what I wanted at Holt's. I placed my order Oct. 28 & was delivered Nov. 04! :D

Just seems it is not fair for New Modeller's Shop to lose out on an order, just for insurance regulations. :x

I am glad you guys like our service. We do put a lot of effort in to good customer service.

THE US CANADA restriction is an insurance issue. Some insures will not touch you if you have ever sent something to the US or Canada because of the culture of suing for anything.

Your current insurer is liable for any item you have sent in the past including ones that were sent before they became your insurer.

I will be looking into changing my insurer to one that will cover the US and CANADA next year.

I was told by the insurer that I also could not knowingly sell an item to someone in the UK knowing it will be shipped to the US or CANADA.

For an example of what you can be sued for in the US check this out.
