Peterborough & Yaxley Diesel Yard New Layout oo

The title is just dreamed up because I live in Yaxley.

My Layout has changed in my head several times.
This is the last upto date Layout but could change as and when

I bought the plywood, wood, screws, glue, cork.
Made up of 12mm ply with 2x1 planed supports,
Evo-stik weatherproof wood adhesive.
PZ Multi-purpose woodscrews 4.00x50mm long.
3mm cork tiles glued to plywood. Material cost
so far is Â£92 Good old B&Q and Focus.

The intention is to use Peco code 75 oo Streamline track.
12 Bachmann Diesel Loco's with Dynamis DCC Controller.
Based around 1960s to 1980s era. Height of layout 29".
Turnouts will be manual until layout is layed in Stone as to say.

Will post more pics when I have completed the layout boards.

This is my 1st model train layout. I have done Radio control aircraft
in the past but too old now eyes not going but gone.

Any comments will be much appreciated.

Finished the 1st Table to-day, here's a pic. Going to move the socket down under the table.
Changed the height to 39" for easy access under the table and also to miss a radiator

I think the eyes have had it mate, there's no radiator there!

My drill just packed up forgot to charge it last night
so cannot finish the layout boards till to-morrow.

I am going to glue the 3mm cork tiles to the plywood.
But I want to seal the top of the tiles, should I use
polyurethane vanish or diluted PVA glue. Sometime
in the future will glue down gravel etc for the tracks whats
the better thing to do, will the polyurethane react with PVA.

Ooooo high tech toys.

Mind you I could do with cordless, how good are they actually?

I mean almost anything is better than dragging extension leads all over the place. but how long do they last? any trouble with some materials etc?

Focus in Peterborough is closing down so all there tiles
were 40% off don't know if you can order them on there website ?

Had to borrow my sons cordless, i think mine might have gave up
all together. How long do they last string comes to mind.

I can't even find them on their website. A little birdy told me Focus are in a bit of trouble so it's worth keeping an eye on their branches as there could be a few bargains to be had.

nice boards so far
in answer to your question, i didn't seal the tiles as it were but i did paint them with a undercoat paint i had that was dark grey
it was an oil based paint i got from wickes and has not given me any problems and is a good base colour as it is for ballast or for covering with any other colour you want to paint before adding scenics

Had a look at your videos boy thats some layout, and the wiring
must be a nightmare. I will have a look for some Grey paint then.

Laid and glued the cork to the boards, sealed it with a coat of Grey Paint from Focus.
Went to local model train shop for a few bits, I try and support
my local shops but the problem is price, now the Internet is here once
you know what you want you can save loads of Â£'s. So laid my 1st bit of
track two turnouts back to back. Now waiting for the main track order from Hattons,
which seem to be the the cheapest on the Net, and seem to
have a good aftersales for problems, well thats what I have learned here on this forum.

Total cost of the Layout boards wood, scews, glue, cork, paint, Â£99.10p
