eek!
your binning the layout!
after all that work, you could just twist the facts abit and make another few sidings and a halt and change the name so it isnt a prototypical model of dungness but is more fun operationally, you could always extend to the middle so there is more track.?

Re: Dungness Nuclear Flask Transfer Terminal
I think the main thing was the failure to secure the flask wagon that started to put the nails in to the coffin.
Also the amount of new models coming out over the next 12months which i would love to have, but these wouldnt have fitted in with the layout.
In the start i set out to model Dungeness, and it was always my intention to stick as closely as possiable to the real thing, when it became clear that this couldnt be done a few more nails went in.
The final straw was the arrival of my Class 60, again it would never fit in with the branch, and having a soft spot for the 60's I wanted to make a layout that I would play with operationally and lots of different stock.
To be honest there wasnt that much work involed in the contruction of Dungeness, and I made many a mistake with it, which i wont be doing with Curzon St.
Thanks lads.

Re: Dungness Nuclear Flask Transfer Terminal
I'm sorry to see the layout go. I can sympathise with the constraints of trying to model a prototype accurately and balancing all the wonderful models available! I always find that a mix of prototype and fiction makes for a more enjoyable and varied operating layout.

LOL! Which word? "you", "from" or "success"?lmsrail wrote:At least yo will learn form your mistakes!

Back to topic, it's hard to stop and rip it all up after so much work, I've done it 3 times this year and changed scale!!!

Its a shame to lose it when you have put all that work in to it, but if you would be scrapping it so soon afterwards then maybe it is the right decision to stop now. I think you would have had a great looking layout. I would be a hypocrite to give you reasons to carry on though, as, recently, I have pretty much decided my layout is going to be re-done in its entirity starting in the new year aswell.
New year, new start. Good luck with your next project.

Wow i've just realised i have been folowing your thread from the start and not once have i commented on it. It looked like it would of been a good railway. If you added in a few extra bits and bobs, a bit of mroe intrest it wuld of had a lot mroe operational intrest.

Re: Dungness Nuclear Flask Transfer Terminal
That was the problem it i'd added things that werent there in real life i wouldnt have had what i set out to do, hence why i scrapped it.
Like i say Dungeness was a good project if id had the skills to make everything needed, which i dont. With Curzon St, i can and will use RTR buildings etc. yes it will look samey (havent i seen that signal box somewhere else??) yes you have but it looks stunning doesnt it! .
Thanks for the comments guys.
Check out the other thread for some news in the a day or so with regards to the commencment of pre tracklaying.
Cheers.

Re: Dungness Nuclear Flask Transfer Terminal
Ive reused all the track and points from Dungeness on Curzon St. Along with the motors and levers. The locomotives are going to fund the other things i need.
