do the twist again..

Have any questions or tips and advice on how to build those bits that don't come ready made.

coming out nicely, colour isn't quite right, not red enough but its close and I think weathering will make it look light faded
Great rescue! Ive spent many an hour getting a twist out of RC sailplane wings and it's a real pain in the proverbial to get everything straight again!

What couplers ?
I like to know when things haven't worked out quite right.
I always use Peco dove-tail mountings - They always need hand made 'fitting'
with various amounts sanded off the two ridges to get spot-on height.
Lengthwise I usually have the open end of a NEM pocket directly over the
bufferbeam/headstocks, perhaps closer to the outer end for longer buffered
stock. Then either Bachmann short narrow tension-lock, or again if extra
length needed the Bachmann long version.

Then a simple snap out to put Kadees in. I normally use #18's, but for extra
length have used both #19 & #20.

Anyway looking good. I never know exactly where to place these long wagons
in passenger trains. I seem to think I've seen them directly behind the locomotive
and other times added on the back as an afterthought !! Then perhaps some
were parcels trains & I didn't notice ??

Bachman "short" couplers, the kits have mounting pegs for them, the dovetail ones would be a lot better. thinking currently is get something like that and 3d print a mount for them.

as for where they go, my thinking is the back, reasoning being upon a trains arrival it can be quickly removed to another platform for unloading while the train is sorted out for departure. then when the time comes for the van to depart its shunted into the departure road ahead of time, then the coaches backed down onto it coupled and off it goes so the loading & unloading don't impact the actual trains too much

I would convert to KD, if not for the price of the things which is frankly ridiculous

Looks good to me. I doubt anyone would notice when it's on the layout.

I was reluctant when I saw the price (and that was years ago) but I have to say the KD couplers have performed flawlessly. Still haven't fitted them to everything, just using a match truck where necessary.

nah the roof fit matters, that was needed to hold the body square and its just not doing it, its about 0.5mm too short for the body and the shape of its underside doesn't match the ends of the body very well. if it was a gaming model it would be getting two part filler but not really practical here as would have to respray a lot after.

I did wonder on KD for locomotives and ends of some wagons, the layout will see a lot of block formations, e.g. rakes of four coaches that would only need them at the ends, I may still get some and try them, can't use under board magnets as the station area won't have space under so would be the visible ones anyway. one for the future
