Grimy Times have an Easter sale till Saturday 27th April.

10% of everything on their website.

Finally got myself a Stanier 8F (Weathered) that I've wanted for about the last 18 months. £117 plus postage.

There was also the Bachmann 1F 41708. The loco used to be the yard shunter locally at Staveley Works in the late 50s/ early 60s, which was only about 5 miles from where I was born and brought up. I think it's preserved at Barrow Hill now, so only about a mile from where it ended it's working life. The Staveley Company had a 100 year agreement with the then Midland Railway for the hire of locos to use in the works. The agreement continued through with the LMS and BR till the end of steam. There was also a Bachmann 03 shunter in NCB livery which looked nice but I had to show some restraint.

For anyone starting new in this hobby, here are two bargains which a probably cheaper than second hand. A Bachmann V3 tank engine either early or late crest for £73.50 (rrp£129.95) from Model Railways Direct. Rails of Sheffield do it for £74.50. They both sell the Bachmann 36-567 Next 18pin decoder for it (made by Zimo I believe). The other bargain is the Bachmann Standard Class 4MT Tank for £84.50 (rrp £139.95) from Rails of Sheffield.

Browsing 'Damaged 00 Gauge Items' online as I do from time to time, I came across this on eBay:.. 'Hornby Lord Nelson Class Sir Francis Drake No.851 Never Run Damaged cab'. With just under five days to go, a starting price of £79 and no bids as yet, the cab roof might make an interesting restoration project for a fan of this class.

Thats another £240 down the swanny! Its like the 1990s again, buying large mainline steam engines for less than £60 quid. Let the good times roll!

Lidl are selling various DIY tools and accessories from Thursday 6th June. Anyone doing any layout wiring may find the scotch lock type connectors & croc clips useful. The 8 brush pack for £2.99 could be useful for painting, cleaning or ballasting.
