Anyone Watching "Way Out West?"

Post by Mountain »

Things are getting interesting with their second loco.

(The homemade CVT transmission was made because the little stationary engine used is not designed to vary its revs so the transmission can vary the speed (And direction) of the loco instead).

oh yes, have been watching a while

I love his approach to all this, amazing what some steel and a plasma cutter plus the space to experiment can lead to

Kinda reminds me of the things my Dad used to make though I could not convince him we needed a railway though I did try! :D

Thanks for posting that link, Mountain! :) Always a delight to watch the ingenious antics these guys get up to.

The totally unperturbed sheep remind me of our goats when we lived up the bush. They would always gather around to see what we were up to and often had to be physically moved out of the way so we could work.

Great fun, and if he gets the kind of drought conditions current in my locality that'll fix the grass on the line problem.

Very readily domesticated: when in their company I try to help the Caprinae develop a better understanding of their relationship with Homo Sapiens by saying something on the lines of "Lancashire Hotpot, Barnsley Chops, Biryani, Kleftiko". (The selection very much depends on the most recent excellent taste experiences.)

My sons loved running around with the goats, although my youngest got a headache one day when he joined in a friendly game of headbutting with some of the goat kids.

Bigmet, you are a bad man... :lol:
Although, when we had tourists staying at our property, we sometimes had to reassure them the the chicken served for dinner was not the same one thay had fed earlier in the day.

Haha. Yes. Goats have harder heads!

Homo-sapiens... Reminds me of this...

You might enjoy 'The Chrysalids' by John Wyndham. Not as well known as 'The Midwich Cuckoos' and 'Day of the Triffids' which were made into popular fillums, but rather more interesting in dealing with the forseeable extinction of Homo Sapiens, on the basis of 'evolution doesn't stop' whatever a 'We are OK Doctrine' might claim.

Me too!
@wayoutwest-workshopstuff6299
@MendItMark
@Kenislovas
@MattsOffRoadRecovery

Listed above are four YouTube subscriptions I suggest for young solo-entrpreneurs. All four are entertainment value, but when I look closely, all four demonstrate Good Business practices.

Watching Matt Wetzel, for example, can help you learn how to use winches; but close examination (of the heavily edited videos) shows attention to detail for the clients and the environment. MORR seems to live by "never make a promise or a threat you're not prepared to keep"

MendItMark has a debugging technique that is identical to mine, although he works in amplifiers and old gramophone players whereas i work in programming languages. Marks tenacity and attention to detail will be incomprehensible to some viewers.

Kenislovas demonstrates his skills improvement over the past three(?) years to the extent that his collapsing beaver dams are a work of art.

Back to WayOutWest: Tim's maze-searching for solutions to problems is amazing (nice one Chris!). But most staggering is his dealing with bureaucracy, and his mental skills at developing solutions to engineering problems.

For those who are watching, they are NOT sheep. They are the railway's Line Maintenance Staff.
Cheers, Chris

Anyone watching Way Out West will notice the latest updates. The loco has been finished and the line has also reached where its owner wanted it to reach.

(First link is the latest with the loco being finished off.. Second link is the one before which shows the line update.

I wonder who will be the first to make a model? :D

I've got Way Out west bookmarked on my PC but things keep getting in the way of watching it. Got a few episodes to catch up with now.
