Hello Members,Brett Here and Im a Lyddle End Addict....
Haha,no seriously a warm Hello From Melbourne
Collecting Lyddle End Items has become a Passion for me,not sure why,In fact when it comes to Model Railway the collecting comes before anything.
I have a layout but its built around LE not the other way around. While i admire guys that do Lifelike/Prototype its just not for me,I like the Fantasy and Imagination that comes with LE,its like a garden, you can all have the same plants but arranging it to oneself is the Intersest.
Anyway as you people from Britain could understand Collecting these items has become very expensive,i Pay double what there worth, with Freight and Tax,as theres not much here in Australia allthough i won a few Auctions local.
ATM i think im only after about 10 more buildings.I dont plan on the Coal mine stuff or the Lock.
Anyway thats enough from me,i will post another story later how i came to buy a boot full of Brand new LE in a Strange twist of fate,as anyone who ever collected knows the hunt and find are the most exciting part.
I will leave with 2 pics ,the first is actually from this site,I believe its from the Hornby Catalogue not sure,i also thinks its OO scale but its of the Gasworks, and the other pics is my take on it.I loved this pic and vowed to recreate it.
thankyou and Regards Brett.

Hello.
I once saw a layout full of those Lyddle End structures which were the ones designed as ornaments. Must have been around 20 years ago when I saw it. It was interesting. I never knew the structures on your layout were made by them for the mainstream manufacturers.

Re: Hello Members
Heres a wider shot of the little village.
The layout is located in a small bedroom and is basically and end to end Shelf layout(DCC).
One of the reasons i joined the forum is i know very little about British Rail so im looking to purchase some Rolling stock
Early this year i purchased a Class O8(DCC Sound)Graham Farish loco on a whim while in the city.Cost a Fortune and was shattered to find in was Awful, unresponsive and just a headache. The shop was most unhelpful,so eventually i wrote a letter to Bachmann Europe who have been very good.
They responded by saying there was a Few issues with this model and if i paid postage they would try and correct the issues,so its back there now.Im hopeful.
So in time im looking advice on a suitable model for this layout, doesnt have to be prototype or anything.
Anyway heres another shot, hope you dont mind this thread.

Re: Hello Members
Hi Brett, and welcome.
You might find the British Railway Modellers of Australia a useful association to join. We actually just had a meeting today, in Cheltenham (Melbourne).
There is a lot of useful knowledge and knowhow with various members, and the meetings are really quite informal. I can PM you the details to join, or to come along to one of the meetings to see if it suits you.

N gauge...
I am glad Bachmann have come to your rescue. Truth be said, the smaller and more delicate/complex things become the harder it is to repair them. DCC and N gauge is already a tight squeeze, but when they did DCC sound in a little shunter I was amazed they could even do it! Fair play, though I would not like to be the one repairing it!

But yes. N gauge is a great space saver. Is always a compromize with space and how one can build something that makes the best of it. I have a different approach in that I went up to 7mm scale but model in narrow gauge instead, though I do say there is no right or wrong approach. It is more about finding what works best for the individual and brings one joy, so with that in mind it looks like you are having fun and that is all that matters... Having fun with a layout and trains one can relax with.

Re: Hello Members
Hello Guys thankyou.
I might make a Layout thread later.
But i will finish the intro with a little story.
20yrs ago while waiting for my wife shopping(waiting waiting)i noticed a LHS and wandered in.I ended up chatting with the owner and purchased a few Lyddle End Items,my first.I never went back there for no particular reason
About a month ago when looking at my layout/Collection i remembered that little store and wondered if he may still have some LE that i hadnt got.
So on a Saturday i went there and was a little dismayed to see a Closed sign on the door. However i could see the shop was still full.Under the sign was a Phone number for info about the store.I rang the number and spoke with a lady who turns out was the Owners sister, sadly the Owner had died a year before of cancer and the family where still working out what to do with the shop.I was about to hang up after condolences when she said dont go,in a fortnight we are having a closing down sale for 2 days, all MRR stuff heavily discounted.
So the day of the sale came and i decided to go maybe to pick up any N scale stuff and maybe LE.I got there and no one was there surprisingly so i scanned the shop and then a I Asked the lady about Hornby Lyddle end.She had no idea, but then i looked behind the Counter to a glass Cabinet and i could not believe what i saw.Brand New Lyddle End Boxes,in All there Where around 50.I asked her to get them all out and place on the counter, while some where doubles, she asked which ones I wanted...THE LOT!.It Ended up with the discount still coming to 1500$.A boot full. She was happy i was in heaven!
TO think after going out of production some 15 years before ,some shop still had a stash.
okay no more stories ! regards bRETT

Re: Hello Members
Very nice. Sad the owner passed away though, but it was meant to be that you had those at a good price.
