Re: Lenz LZV Command station issue

If I remember correctly, it allowed me to type in 0001 but it would revert to 1 (Or was it 01?) I did not bother with 4 figure addresses for long because I expanded my system and by doing this, bought two additional handsets offered secondhand in RM columns (Which did 4 figure addresses as were from set 02 (I had the set 01)), and also bought a lead to enable me to use my Lenz Compact as an additional slave controller, and to tell the truth, I tended to use this mor Re as an easy to use controller than the other handsets, but it was limited to two figure addresses (Hence why I had to run the system as a two figure address system instead when using the Compact), but overall, apart from having access to just three functions, the Lenz Compact was so nice and easy to use, I only used the set 01 handcontroller for programming the more complicated things, as the Compact was so nice to use!
When I initially first bought the Compact, which was my first trial for DCC (Which I bought because I could later use it as a slave to one of the other Lenz systems (Or Roco systems which only came via H0 trainsets in those days as there was no Roco importer who sold them on their own), I initially didn't realize the beauty of the Compact, as I found it so simple and easy to use I was looking for "More". (As in my mind one hears DCC advertised as something so superior to DC that one expects so much more). It was only when I invested and bought the "More" that one begins to realize how good the Compact actually was. Yes, it is simple. But it actually does a lot more than one initially thinks in a way that is so convenient to use that one does not realize that it can do it if that makes sense? (And what it can't do one does not really need it to do anyway). The ONLY one limitation I ever found with the Lenz Compact was when I bought a DCC sound loco as I could only access the three sounds on it. The loco ran fine, so I used the set 01 to program the sounds in a different order so the basic most popular sounds I wanted were the first three sounds accessible, and I was happy with that. Lenz Compact controller controlling DCC sounds! (But one does need the set 01 or a better system to program the order of the DCC sounds on the decoder to do that, as the Compact was never designed to operate with DCC sound, as DCC sound was not a thing back then. (Actually was not a thing when set 01 was made, but set 01 can access almost everything programming wise that one basically needs. Just found the Compact easier and nicer to use).

Anyway. Those are my experiences. Also tried a basic Bachmann controller and it was lovely and simple but way too limited unless one only has a few DCC locos. The Compact runs rings around it in many ways! BUT I did LOVE the almost instant "Plug and play" ability of this Bachmann controller as it was so simple when it came in the set (Which I sold to a friend so he could try DCC) that I actually liked it and it reminded me of the hastle free DC controllers of the past.

Never even thought about this in twenty years with this system! All steam locos get a four digit running number related to what's on the cabside, usually by not using the leading region/BR build digit, and the diesels whatever comes after 'D'; except DP1 which is rendered as 4161.
