Then all my model passenger trains are staff trains, other than Pullman services. The typically gloomy interiors at night of all the carriage stock in the BR period until the HST appeared, is my lasting memory; so I don't have the lights on other than in the Pullman cars.
G'Day Bigmet

I have some wonderful memories of overnight trains from Newcastle to Bristol, sleeping in compartments on these trains, having a switch to turn the lights off.

Hi Manna,
Ah, the good old days when there was time for a useful kip on such a journey. Confession time, for any longer haul travel within the UK I switched to air travel long past, and thus got to sleep in my own bed...
