New Brockbank

What a mess ! These are the nearly completed baseboards for my new layout. The railway has to share this room with books, records and a diecast car collection , so construction means constantly moving things out of the way , hence the chaos. My wife wasn't around to help with the tape measure, so the following measurements are approximate.
The layout iwill run around 3 walls, and is just under 12 foot long and 7.6 feet wide.
Each board is 2 foot deep, apart from the board along the back wall which is just over 1 foot deep.
The layout stands just shy of 4 foot off the ground, apart from the board along the back wall which is 13cm lower.
This is to allow for a viaduct and embankment.

There's no track plan yet , but I'm intending to have 2 stations, a fiddle yard at the Velux window end and separate sidings on the lower section, which will kind of been a completely separate layout.

My first thought when looking at the first photo was that it would make a very good jigsaw puzzle (the photo, I mean, not the layout board).

My oldest loco hauls the first test train. This is just a big oval with a gap where the lower section starts and ends. Woodwork is not my strong point, so this loosely laid test track is just to check everything is level..
I also just wanted to runs some trains after 4 months with no layout. .I've just noticed those protruding screw heads
It's taken about 6 weeks to get this far, and I'm now going to have a couples of weeks off. There's a lot of jobs that need doing around the house which I put off to get the baseboards finished.
Although I won't be working on the layout , I will be busy coming up with a trackplan and ideas for the scenery.
This one of my favourite parts of building a layout.

Looks good to me, Ken. Problem with screw heads easily sorted out if you've got a countersink tool for the drill.

there are some lovely drill bits that have a countersink built in which looks a good time saver - just not seen them yet

I think (maybe wrong) that they come as a drill bit combined with the countersink, ie, not separate.
