Female crew figures?

Hello,

Appologies if I'm in the wrong section here. I'm trying to see if I can get 1:76 scale female steam loco crew figures? I've tried Etsy but to my surprise, there was nothing. Does anyone know of anywhere reputable where I can source such figures?

I've never seen any.
My thinking runs to Modelu where although they, to my knowledge, don't do
any as a stock item they will do scans of real people. Shirley a friend of
mine has 3D printed copies of herself !!

They may well be able to make something for you ?

Certainly in today's world why not ??

Demand is going to be small in the UK for the entire time of regular steam operation on the national network, because although both world wars saw the railways employ women in a great many roles, footplate crew was not one of them. (Special note. Possibly specific to the UK: the time required to be trained to advance to the first footplate role of trainee fireman ('passed cleaner'), was by a traditional process of exposure to 'cleaning' steam locos to prepare them for the next working turn, and this took pretty much the duration of these wars...)

As above Modelu will do the job, though the subject to be scanned will need to provide (and wear!)whatever crew clothing is required. It would be interesting to hear how you get on.

I imagine the cost of traveling to Modelu for scans and/or having bespoke figures made would be quite prohibitive.

Looking at the crew figures which came with some of my locos, I would be hard pressed to know if they were male or female. They have short hair but that doesn't mean anything. I just assume they are male for the reasons Bigmet has outlined above.

Perhaps modifying an existing figure to suggest female characteristics might work.

This chap was originally an alien which came with one of my son's Gundam models.

Had enormously long limbs, huge head, etc. A bit of remodeling with a craft knife plus some paint and he looks quite at home on the railway.

But, but, but, all the extra-terrestrial aliens are male, they are only coming here for our women. I am absolutely certain of this, my late Pa had all the British government paperwork that says he is an Alien and it is still in my possession...

Glad you enjoyed that, my jaw dropped when I first saw it; truly laughably unfit for purpose: I really couldn't believe what I was looking at on taking over his affairs with the onset of the vascular dementia that robbed him of capacity. It's a shockingly poor quality item, due to production on post war austerity grade material - grey sugar paper with slightly darker grey print - and characters as small as three point. This is the very same 'Aliens Act' documentation that caused the Caribbean immigrants - such as those on the Windrush - so much trouble. (Pa, entering from The Netherlands, and the son of a senior civil servant, took great care of it in a strong envelope, and with a complete typed transcript provided by my mother in 1956, because the legibility was already poor.)

What I feel was unforgiveable is the Civil Service' failure to reissue the documentation as the UK recovered, in competent better quality form, when the 'Aliens act' was renewed in 1960. Someone was sleeping on that job. I have shown it to a couple of London Transport managers of my acquaintance, just so that they can see how poor it was, and thus likely to cause long term difficulties, which led to much indignation.

Now the link has finally worked for me, (s/w problem at their end) that was a really good find. I do feel Modelu could do with a few more women prepared to be scanned, or we are going to find that one lady appearing 'on every footplate'!
