simple review of this beastie

have to say I'm very impressed, most of the stock on Leopard Street is second hand and typically older, this is much newer and really is a significant improvement. now on the look out for more, or will be after pay day comes around

Re: Oxford Rail 6 plank wagon
Oxford's wagons have been produced at very attractive prices and the LNER six plank general merchandise open is among their best, I have a number to augment my 3H kitbuilds, that kit having been designed as 'slightly distressed' while the OR item is as new. Commendation too for their GER van and Banananananana* variant and 'Pilchard' engineer's wagon. The LNER cattle van came in for a clobbering as having both sides incorrectly the same, rather than mirror images, and the RCH pattern mineral is good as a single item, as it has non-standard repairs reproduced on it, I have a couple of the latter, in different trains...
An interesting aspect relating to the 'more recent entrants' supply of rolling stock. Unlike Hornby, Bachmann and Dapol (not sampled Heljan) active for over 20 years, that have stuck with the 26mm pinpoint axle length, some are deviant, including Oxford. Not a real problem until either a replacement is required should they cease RTR OO production, or there's a wish to use an alternative wheelset; and fixable with use of top hat bearing inserts, but as well to be aware. (Rapido have stuck with 26mm length and the brass bearing inserts standard for OO kitbuilds, round of applause.)

Re: Oxford Rail 6 plank wagon
didn't check the axle lengths, good to know, and good to know rapido have realised a small increase in build cost can lead to vastly better quality they can use as a USP.Bigmet wrote: ↑Wed Jan 29, 2025 11:33 am Oxford's wagons have been produced at very attractive prices and the LNER six plank general merchandise open is among their best, I have a number to augment my 3H kitbuilds, that kit having been designed as 'slightly distressed' while the OR item is as new. Ah, the Oxford Rail business has been sold back to Lyndon Davies, which caught me by surprise quite recently, thought it was only the diecast cars business that had been sold, but it turned out to be 'everything Oxford'.
