Hornby intercity colours

Post by bob hughes60 »

I would be very grateful if the experts could recommend paints which are a good match for hornby intercity blue, grey and yellow as I wish to retouch some worn hornby coaches.

I believe RailMatch are the go to standard for authentic British railway colours. Available at most good retailers.

The implication of 'worn' is that the items may have been in use for some time, and as a result there may also have been changes to the paint colours since they were originally applied, and if this has happened it always makes it problematic to obtain colour matches.

(If it makes it any easier for you, BR couldn't manage this on the real thing, colour mismatches could be seen following repairs.)

But many modellers dislike any mismatches, and go for total repaints, all very much down to individual choice.

Bigmet,

When I lived in South Northamptonshire one of our friends worked at the
Wolverton works on refurbishment. He told me that sometimes one side was ready
and painted well before the other side was ready. Then when painted a different
mix of paint was used and was noticeably different.
His comment was that nobody can look at both sides at the same time so it wouldn't
be noticed. Alan has been retired a long time now.

Funny how I have a BR blue/black speckled carpet running down my loft.
