Cheap plastic wagons
Chose a brown for a rust background
Added plastic trip for better detailing horizontal and diagonals will be seen

Colour trims continue adding layers, I never ever use a total flat colour if it is transparent at all it adds depth
Slowly darken the browns for an aged look, darker browns mixed with ever increasing percentages of black…layer layer…layer

Sorry got so into the last step here forgot to take pictures, I think, but I think you can easily work out,I always dirty my colours, part mixing black with a swirl ensures no large flat finish

You can cut kitchen sponges paint black and add coal for deeper loads hides the fact their is no interior detailing, if you go quite high do use glue on coal to sponge so dust don’t nit wreck the running of trains lower in wagon I have had no issues

Different wagons but they show the point of the post

As a precaution most of this coal is plastic model stuff

If you see paint pots in shot they are the likely culprits

FYI the last wagon is not a real wagon, or if it is it is highly unusual Hornby with the runners, I never found a reference wagon to work from

The reddish one denotes aged wood
The brown rusty one denotes metal
As no reference it was whatever I had to hand that I thought would last muster

Some reference photos I had around the same time probably influenced the colours
