Is there any scenics missing from the market place?
Is there any scenics missing from the market place?
Morning everyone, just a quick and simple question, is there any area's or specific items, that you feel aren't available for model railways. Whether it's that they're not available, or they're too expensive? Bicycles? Phone boxes? Gates, windows, doors, chimneys etc?

I can only speak from the O gauge world - it's really hard to think of something you cannot get, there's even working filing cabinets! Largely prices are reasonable, but from the items list you suggested - yes, the Peco kits are very expensive. They are well made though, some of the alternatives sometimes not so much, so horses for courses I guess.
What would be nice would be a bag of pre-cut plasticard 'slates' (7mm x 14m in O) - just because cutting them manually is a pain in certain areas - and some suitable ridge tiles (available but overly ornate). Proper (i.e. 1:43 not 1:48) loose bricks and building blocks would be great too (again making them is easy enough, but insanely boring).

Waterslide decals of private companies for road vehicles. To fit the sides / doors of 00 Oxford cars for example.
Perhaps which can be edited / personalised before printing / purchasing.

I don't own a printer so cannot do this myself at home.
Thanks

Hi Glencairn, yes I have seen that one, it is really good. However I was thinking more of the open frame type which were very common I tried making one from microstrip but it wasn't a success.glencairn wrote:Jim. Thanks for the replies. It seems almost everything is catered for!
Jim, I'll see if I can make a brazier like your photo, I'll let you know.

Scenic items includes road vehicles.
I do think there is a shortage of 1920's to 1950's cars.
Oxford Diecasts have done almost everything from the
1950's on but very few earlier models, those apart from
a few top of the range. The Austin7 one super exception !!

Took me some head scratching time, but I have one now. The securing chains with turnbuckles for containers on conflats. More variety in containers would be good too, distinctly different types like the pressed steel and 'Drikold' designs for example.
Re: Is there any scenics missing from the market place?
Another vote here for customisable waterslide decals.
I've tried printing them myself with mixed results, none of which were satisfactory.
However, the main one is that there seems to be a lack of modern 00 figures, especially young people, those in summer clothing, and with tech (smartphones, laptops, etc.).
(I'm currently in need of two such figures for a project.)

My layout is set around the late fifties, I don't ever recall seeing any OO gauge Teddyboys/girls.

Re: Is there any scenics missing from the market place?
Sorry for my very slow reply, been busy at work and not had much time. I'll take a look at some of the suggestions. What made me ask the question, was 2 things, firstly, the difficulty I'd had locating any 1/76th motorcycles. I found some scooters, and some bikes with sidecars, but finding solo motorcycles was proving difficult. I then managed to successfully print some, and while they're fragile, they are perfectly useable.
Secondly someone on Facebook was looking for some cannons to use in his new Metcalfe castle on his layout. I again managed to print some for him, and was very pleased with them. So I was wondering if there were other things people struggle to get that maybe I could print. There's a few things I can look at. I'm working on getting some tractors done, possibly some cars, and some more bikes.

Hooks and shackles from roxey mouldings (they are actually etched brass)
Cheers
