Wiring a Peco SL-E194

Post by mikehextall »

Can anyone help me out with wiring a Peco SL-E194 (I know it says SL-194 in the diagram) into the below configuration so when I change the points using DCC Cobalt IP Digital point motors, the two frogs on the SL-E194 change accordingly?

The first essential is to have insulated rail joiners in 4 places.
one on each of the lines from your green markers on the crossing.
Stock rails permanently live and frogs switched from the points.

But I'll await others comments.

One solution is use a dcc frog switch module on each frog, with isolated joiners as decriibed above, such as the Gaugemaster DCC80 Autofrog - individually £8.50 (or less), pack of 3 £22.50 (or less)

You will need to decide which point you will use to switch the frog polarity on the crossing. I would recommend that you use the lower point since the straight through on the points will normally be the main route, and good signalling practice will be to change the lower point to diverging before changing the top point to diverging to provide flank protection to the crossing.

So the wiring for the lower point motor will be:-

1. Link terminals 1-5
2. Link terminals 2-4
3. Connect terminal 3 to the bottom point frog and to the left frog of the diamond.
4. Connect terminal 6 to the right frog of the diamond.

The top point motor wiring will be completely standard:-

5. Connect terminal 3 to the top point frog.

How you wire the DCC feed to terminals 1 and 2 will depend on which way round you fit the motor, so you will need to do some trial and error to get that right!
