Very clever Rob. Impressive, to say the least.

Thanks, Brammie!
The layout at night (or very early morning anyway). Just a phone photo, so it looks a lot brighter than it actually is.

If I may say, a brilliant achievement. The tiny photo bombs are precious. Lady Godiva and the Roo. Perfect.
Nessie rocks!

Thanks @Chops
More photos: ballasting between Kato Unitracks.
Kato sell a ballast mix that closely matches the moulded ballast on their Unitrack.

Re: Picnic Creek - An US N gauge train set
So time for my quarterly update.
Namely I made a start on a "backscene" which is there to hide the fiddle yard from the scenic part.
It's made from milky white perspex, with a view to having it backlit,
I cut the perspex using the score and snap/shatter method (not recommended).
The scenic part.
The fiddle yard.
It's held upright using some brackets I 3D printed. I'll cover the lowest part with some fences and bushes and such.
I used my airbrush for the first time in ages with some oil based ink colours for the sky and sea of grass, then dabbed on a few impressionistic details with a few brushes. I masked the clouds off with some cloud-shaped paper cut outs and then added some grey wash for the shadowy parts.
Then I added backlighting.
I made these brackets using the 3D printer. They clip onto the extruded aluminium light channel. They have strips of LED ribbon stuck inside. I had the LED strip already as I've been using it to light my buildings but I still have metres of the stuff left over.
The lights hanging over the fiddle yard.
Some shots from grown-up eye-level.
