In N gauge I was more interested in getting a 'texture' better than just flocks, rather than actual standing up strands. For that I expect a proper electronic applicator would achieve better results, but at a much higher price :D
Thank you for the reply, for me it looks good in the pics.

I've bought one those electronic fly swats to convert but haven't got round to it - a lot cheaper than the ready made ones - did that cross your mind ?

Thanks Crispy :D

And just to prove that I am still moving slowly on with this layout, here is evidence of recent ballasting of the goods yard - this is the FINAL ballasting on the layout (YAY!). You can see I have painted the rail sides rust on the near three sidings, but not yet on the far three . . .

Once the boring tasks of ballasting and rail painting are out of the way, I can focus on the last remaining scenic work of the layout.

But, with the completion (ish) of the layout now in sight, inevitably my mind is starting to think about two things:
  1. planning of the next layout :D
  2. what to do with this one :?

You have to buy a snooker table!
Then No.2 can be bigger!

That aerial view of the layout is brilliant, I love the contours of the tunnel mouth as it disappears under the yard. You probably mentioned it in previous posts but what is the reason for the odd shaped hole at the top end of the yard area?

As to your next layout and what to do with this one, how high does this table and its scenics sit above floor level? Could a larger table be utilised for the next layout with this one tucked away beneath and wheeled out when you want a play?

Thanks guys for comments. My next layout is likely to be much larger, so I'm assuming I won't really want to 'play' with this one anymore .

The hole is for access to hidden tracks and will (of course!) be covered up :D

Watch it PNP,

Megalomania - Always wanting a bigger one !!
You have the "Builders" problem, once it's built what do I do then ?
Nothing wrong with running trains, but it doesn't stop the creative
juices flowing.
My trouble is I can't part with previous creations - to make room
the wife may have to go !!
Looking forward to whatever you dream up !!

I have been constructing a Ratio 'yard crane' kit. These N gauge Ratio kits are very fiddly - they expect you to work miracles with 'monofilament' supplied in the kit :o. Anyway, I have completed the kit and have uploaded a couple of (somewhat cruel!) macro photos below . . .

PNP
Oh the joys of N gauge modelling ;)

It will look great in your goods yard, or where ever you plant it

Have you thought of really making life difficult and printing out the SWL notice for the crane beam :)

Sorry

I bought a pair of P & D Marsh white metal 'Tall yard lamps' and installed them on the layout today. I wanted to use one of them as a 'handle' for removing the 'access hatch'. So first I hammered in a nail so it would be nice and strong:

Then I grafted the lamp post from the kit onto it (the idea being I will hold onto the nail rather than the delicate lamp when removing the hatch):

Anyway, here it is in place on the layout:

Great layout Pink Nosed Penguin, it's providing a lot of inspiration as i'm at the planning stage. Your layout has a nice combination of shunting and continuous running in a small space, it's a self contained railway network!

Do you mind if i borrow your plan? I think the wrapped dog bone approach will work well for me although i'll probably make it a bit longer to relax some of the curves.
Cheers
Neal
