An idea for white lines on roads. comes in 1mm strips, I think 2mm is also available and masking tape, The idea came from another forum where it was suggested to use as pin striping on model cars. Might well also have other uses. I haven't tried it myself yet, but at the price it's got to be worth a try'. There are loads of listings if you type 'nail tape' into ebay, below are a couple of examples.

Widely used here in Japan for that purpose, here's some I laid down literally yesterday:

Surpsingly easy to work with, even for forming curves.

that looks like a nice easy way of doing it! must remember to try it myself when i get to that stage!

I've used strips of self adhesive paper left on the edges of A4 sheets of labels. Rubbed down with a roller onto an abrasive paper road the colour starts to show through looking like wear.
