Still at Toton, and nothing so far has happened to it, that includes being stripped or worse... Just rotting away.

Presumably you are aware it was involved in the Carrbridge derailment, severely damaged, and now that the accident report is completed can be cut up

Hurragh one less and faceless shed should cut up the lot and reinstate all the 60's and 56 and 58;s that are stored.
Can't see many tears been shed when this boring loco cut up

you say that when the companies go bust for having uneconomical and unrelible loco's. In the same way that steam was scraped. The 9f's had many years ahead of them, but they weren't as economical as newer locos.50035 Ark Royal wrote:Hurragh one less and faceless shed should cut up the lot and reinstate all the 60's and 56 and 58;s that are stored.

think if the 60's had the same servicing regime than the 66's they would have been absolutely fine, just badly managed. A superior loco, with inferior servicing
Whoo, new job... big pay cut... but new job! yay

66s don't need servicing. They're badly built, and uncomfortable for the crew, but from a reliability point of view they're very very good.

Cl.60s are more powerful than the Cl.66s as well.

No denying that but it does not make the class 66 a bad loco.EWS got what they asked for. I am sure if EWS had ordered 250 class 59's the power's that be who ran the track access policy at the time would have had a heart attack. 250 locos with a top speed of 60 mph would not have made the passenger train operators happy as it would have led to difficulties in accomadating fast passenger trains and freight where all freight trains had a maximum speed of 60 mph. EWS had no option other than to go for the general purpose 75 mph loco. That is why the class 60 will only ever be used for a specific type of train which is slotted in with I'd say greater difficulty every day. Passenger train operators do not like to be disrupted by freight trains, neither do their passengers. It is easier to get pathing for freight the faster it can run. We will see how the class 70 delivers on this front.Look at how intensively worked class 66's are compared to older BR units. Frequently an older BR unit could sit for months awaiting repair. Modern privatised freight companies will not tolerate this. Modern traction is used much more intensively than traction of 10 or 15 years ago.Class 66 might not be liked by drivers but it delivers for the owners.PeterH wrote:Cl.60s are more powerful than the Cl.66s as well.
