60097 "Pillar"

Post by Metrocamel »

Hi. I'm looking to possibly rename a Hornby Class 60 as 60097 "Pillar" (Pillar being my favourite mountain in the Lake District :) ). However I can't find any decent pictures of it in Transrail livery, which it carried while wearing the name. So far I can see about three pics, but no good side shots showing the T-rail logos or nameplate positions :(

Hornby's Tug with logos on one side (but not the other) would seem a good place to start, but the T-rail logos on the model have a grey backing to them, and this doesn't seem to be the case on every single Tug that wore the livery. It would be nice to have an idea before I give it a go.

If anyone has any pics or recollections of what it was like It'd be a big help.

Much appreciated.

Liam.

Hi Liam,

There are a few shots which might help here: http://www.railphotoarchive.org/rpc_intro.php. Type the running number into the 'Number' box at the bottom of the screen.

Thanks alot :) Didn't know it carried the name in sector colours, so I might try that one. I've decided not to base it on 60066, since I've heard it's tricky to remove the coal sector markings - 60077 in Mainline grey looks a better bet if I can get hold of one.

One last question. Does anyone know the best way to remove the logos/numbers on the Hornby 60? :? before I start spreading white spirit on a 70 quid model

Many thanks.

Liam

When I was rempving decals from my new-gen 56, one coal sector decal came off fine with white spitit, the other... didn't. So, I have a slightly bald 56....
What did work very well, however, was T-Cut.

Sorry to drag this up after so long but I've gotten round to buying a 60 for this project and am about to order Trainload Construction decals and etches.

I've got two quick questions;

- Does anyone know which depot plaque 60097 would have worn :? ? I can't find a single photo - even the ones showing sector livery don't appear to have a depot plaque. Apparently the loco's first allocation was Immingham, but I'd like to be sure.

- What are the white parts on Fox Transfers waterslides for? They appear to have the same "footprint" as the actual coloured images - e.g. for sector decals there's a set of blank white duplicates to go with them. Are these underlays to stop the base colour showing through the actual tarnsfer?

Any help here would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Liam

That's taken just a couple of years after entering traffic... I don't think it ever had a plaque...

And yep, the white things are called 'intensifiers'

When I was doing research into 60050, I found out that most, if not all, 60s didn't have a plaque on when entering service. Dunno if that helps though!

That's exactly right. The white ones go on first and then the coloured ones on top. See here for an example, albeit in N.
