Home 8x4 N Gauge Layout - Updates 1st March

Post by matt1471 »

Thought it about time i posted some pictures of mine!! I'm envious of some the layouts on here. They are amazing and the detailing is supurb!

Well, my layout was built by my old man some 25years ago and was laid stagnent in my bedroom for 15years! I wanted a hobbie, so i pulled the railway up, and re-laid it and have started the scenery behind it. The track is Trix, and was quite brittle, so i did have to replace some sections which i annoyingly did with PECO, but it all works ok...a little rough in places.

ANyway, here's some pics!! Comments welcome!

As it was before i started the project.....

The layout looks very good already with a lot of track! I'm sure yours will be detailed like some of the others before you know it. It just takes time! :D

Are you going for any particular region or era?

Yeah, after pulling it all up and working out how much it would cost replace, i was quite surprised as to how much it would cost. I ender up using most of it again, which i think i might regret with some of my older loco's.

Its only got 2 independant cirlces, and then each has its own 'fiddle yard/sideing'.

As for an era or place...well, no set place, just a rural town/village theme with a canel with a small dock, church and a farm!! Gotta have a farm.

Loco's are BR and I also want to get the class Q1 Southern, so again, slight mixed back. 4steam loco's, 1 diesel and an intercity!!

Are you going to run an orange pen or paint, down the edge of the buildings to hide the white lines on the corner of buildings?

Hey, thanks Jimbo! Yeah, loving the E.D Best loco on the board!! The old man was an architech, so i think he designed it quite well to be used. I want to make it much more usable although seem to make things complicated for myself....seperater power in the main siding on the middle of the board so a loco can run while another 2 run round the outside.

I think i probably should cover up the white building lines. Although i know it loses the realism, i kinda dont mind as it does make them look hand-made. Thanks for the tip though!! 8)

Excellent layout! Your scenery is making me eager to get on with mine but I have a long way to go before that starts :(

Started bringing things to life now!! Started weathering the track with some rust coloured paint, and also my first attempt at weathering a truck. Aiming it to be a dis-used truck, rusting away in the siding.

Hedges are made from green scourer pads then dipped in scatter. I'm really pleased with them.

I like my rails left on the side of the track rusting away to!! Let me know what you all think!!

Hi,
I was just wondering how high and wide your bushes are? I might try some myself
