Re: USA stock - best places to get it

Even more important than supply is what to buy, tell him to stick to Atlas, Kato, Walthers models but steer clear of American Bachmann, I have been modelling US layouts for over 13 years and learned the hard way Bachmann was and still is junk.

Re: A Nice H0 Layout.

No doubt about it they sure know how to build great layouts over there, it also makes a nice change to see a North Eastern states layout instead of the popular South Western states layouts, awesome model that N&W J Class lots of real life footage of 611 pulling 24 heavy weight coaches through th...

Re: Hi from Australia

Hi Electraman I hope your move to Wagga works out well and if you need a rest from the trains you can always catch yourself a nice Freshwater Crayfish in the Murmbidgee River, although I now live near Brizzy I spent 30 years living in Victoria including near Belgrave the home of Puffing Billy hence ...

Re: Converting Hornby tank engines

The current transformer controller packs that Hornby provide typically put out 21Vac from the plug pack that is what I get from a 240v home system, by replacing the original Hornby wall pack with a 12Vdc supply it reduces the output power on the controller, this enables slow start, stop and scale sp...

Re: Converting Hornby tank engines

As far as the little 0-4-0 tank engines running to fast I solved the problem by repacing the plug pack power adaptor with a 12v DC unit less power to the track means less speed from the locos, mine now stop, start and run at realistic speeds, my other 0-6-0 locos also run better with reduced power, ...

Re: If you were a model railway manufacturer, what would you make?

I am with Mountain reasonable quality models with reliable mechanisms at an affordable price and target my range to people that actually run trains not shove them in a glass case and look at them.

Re: Hornby get financial lifeline

When its all said and done people buy what they can afford but that does not mean that they are any less an enthusiastic modeller, I myself buy Railroad models and consider myself to be a model railway fanatic, lets face it it is only in recent years that Hornby have lifted their game in the mechani...

Re: Hornby get financial lifeline

I for one could not care less what happens to Hornby to my way of thinking most OO gauge manufacturers have prced themselves out of the market and its only going to get worse, that I believe is why so many mdellers are turning to American layouts where locos are cheaper and far better quality. Our l...

Re: Lima can motor locos

The thing I like about Lima models is that they can sit idle for 30 or so years but give them a little push backwards and forwards and off they go, a wee bit of oil and they run as good as new, its a pitty some of our other brands are not as reliable.

Re: Hornby in the news today

All this talk about Bachmann makes me wonder why Bachmann USA are able to sell a Sound Value steam loco to Aussies for $150 Including postage, a friend of mine buys these dcc sound locos from Trainword USA but If I wanted to buy a dcc Branchline steam loco over here I would get very little change ou...

Re: Are Model Shows Worth Visiting?

I must b an easy going modeller as I wouldn't know if a layout is a copy of a real place or not to me they are all freelance, I myself have been building layouts sine the late 1960s and use the word "resemble" as a yardstick, if a layout looks British, American of whatever the aim has been...

Re: Are Model Shows Worth Visiting?

I think Model Railway shows are an important part of this hobby, nothing in this world is perfect so if shows don't come up to modellers expectations just get over it and stay at home, I don't understand why Railway modellers have turned into a pack of moaners, crikey we are lucky enough to partici...
