Re: Exeter St Davids OO

I'd be interested to see photos of the finished result. Shunting at Exeter St. Davids sidings kept me awake many years ago as my University Halls of Residence backed on to the sidings. I cursed them at the time...

Re: What is a new product?

Technically a new SKU (stock keeping unit) is a new product, hence renumbered cars or reliveried count. As opposed to a new model which I would say has to be either of a type not previously produced or a previously produced type that has been reengineered, new moulds, new drivetrain etc.

Re: Does Hornby push itself too far?

Brand owners seeking fatter margins, cost push from toll manufacturers, price resistance from consumers. There is an obvious answer to square the circle. Cut out the retailer. The retail margin at RRP is the fattest margin in £ terms in the whole retail market supply chain. Were brand owners to sell...

Re: Heljan wheels

Bufferstop, thanks for that, looks like a rerailer is exactly what I need, struggling for 5 to 10 mins to rail a Heljan makes one give up and reach for an old trusty Hornby.

Re: Merchant Navy class coupling

Thanks guys. There is no obvious NEM socket, nor does there seem to be an empty screw hole. I can take a photo but how do I post it?

Merchant Navy class coupling

I have lost the coupling from the back of the tender of a Merchant Navy class loco from R1038 The Boxed Set Orient Express (the one with a HM2000 controller and pullman coaches with lights, 2005 release). For the life of me I can't even see where the coupling would have been mounted. Does anyone kno...

Heljan wheels

I don't understand the logic behind Heljan's model design. On the one hand they apparently (so I have frequently read) produce one of the best running diesel loco chassis. On the other hand they use stupidly small wheels in their 6 wheel loco bogies, wheels are thin with very small flanges. This mak...

Re: DCC Concepts Powerbase

A steel or iron strip under the track will do it, no need to pay big money for this part of the system.

Re: 00 Model directory

Ok thanks, the Hornby guide has proved very useful. Is there anything analogous for Bachmann, Heljan & Dapol?

Re: Treason

Some might say you've redeemed yourself after being a criminal for years, running LMS!  Welcome to the world of diesels. 8) Glencairn Yes, years of LMS! Simple reason why I picked upon LMS, best looking locos of the models available at the time IMO. I particularly like the Princess Royal...

Re: Treason

Thanks for the replies. All of the ones I ordered (except for LMS 10000 which is LMS black, couldn't resist another large LMS loco) are BR green. Keeping to the beginning of diesel traction means that I will be able to mix running with my paltry BR steam fleet, well, that's the excuse anyway.

Treason

After many years of faithfully sticking with running LMS passenger expresses I have committed a most heinous and treasonable crime, I have ordered a few Heljan and Bachmann diesels. Bachmann class 55 & LMS twin 10000, Heljan classes 23, 47 & English Electric DP2. No Hornby I'm afraid. Firstl...

Railroad 9F

I have recently bought a R2785 Hornby Railroad 9F, apart from having a different tender and being in a different BR livery the locomotive is virtually indistinguishable from an earlier R2105D Hornby 9F. Are Hornby now using the same bodies for Railroad models as for normal Hornby? Or are they simply...

No reply and a mobile phone as opposed to a shop address and a landline number. Seems suspicious. Don't use BACS.
