Re: Hattons website issue on Google Chrome
As no one else has reported a similar issue using Chrome with the "Add to Cart" link then I must assume that there is a software conflict that is unique to my computer software. There is no issue when using IE or Firefox or if using Chrome to gain access to the "Add to Cart" link...

Re: Class 25 misbehaving
I assume that the gear fitted is the silver coloured alloy gear. If you wish to replace with a later brass gear then you need an eleven tooth gear for a three-pole armature. Later Chinese made models were five-pole and had ten tooth brass gears. Be wary as one major eBay seller from Preston has ten ...

Re: The internet and its effect on online sales
Nobby, I had a similar situation many, many years ago in a major hobby store in Western Sydney. A friend and I were out to buy N gauge items and the store in question had plenty on offer. I gathered up a large amount of N gauge, at the time exceeding $500.00 and was waiting at the counter to be serv...

Re: The internet and its effect on online sales
A recent venture into fast electric boats to assist my son had me purchasing small parts from a U.S. hobby store. The store offered two methods of shipping - normal rate and economy rate. A warning on the site advised customers outside the States not to use the economy rate if the part was urgently ...

King Arthur class valve gear replacement
A recent pre-owned arrival "Excalibur" had a damaged/missing right side valve gear mechanism. I chose to complete the model so purchased a replacement part. What a nightmare!!!!!! The stock part is retained in the cast chassis with rather fine moulded projections which lock the part in pos...

Re: The internet and its effect on online sales
Something that evilbay will not tell you is that should you raise a claim against a seller to return the item for a refund then you will only be refunded the actual postage cost that the seller paid to the third part provider. The additional shipping cost plus taxes charged by the third party is not...

Re: The internet and its effect on online sales
Though I may sound a little contrevercial here, but why don't manufacturers simplify their chassis so they are basically a pair of frames that everything bolts on to in the manner that kit manufacturers and the likes of Triang used to do. Even if mazak weights were used, any issues could easily be ...

Re: The internet and its effect on online sales
My point was, yes the internet does expose the retailer to a wider market, however, it also exposes the manufacturers' flawed production types. A model will get an "internet reputation" and then sit on dealers' shelves until firesaled off at a much lower profit margin. The internet has als...

From memory I used Tamiya "aluminium" in a spray can when I refurbished my old Blue Pullman set. The finish looked factory.

Re: The internet and its effect on online sales
So, does the internet have an effect on online sales? Well, it certainly impacted on my online purchases. In the last several years I have purchased only two new locomotives, each with a known track record, from Bachmann with all other loco purchases being pre-owned items. I have had a far better s...

The internet and its effect on online sales
It seems of late that many manufacturers are receiving a reputation for less than stellar performances from locomotives in their stables if numerous online complaints are to be believed. If I was paying full retail then I would expect that the seller would ensure the loco was fully operational prior...

Re: Hattons website issue on Google Chrome
I suppose I am a bit of a recalcitrant in that I have only this week upgraded to Windows 7 Professional after years of dogged adherence to Windows XP Professional. A computer failure during the week ended my long association with XP. I will not embrace Windows 10 and in reality many devotees of Wind...

Re: Hattons website issue on Google Chrome
Do not know if further site issues however, on using Chrome, Firefox and IE the home page of the site was very, very slow to load and then I could go no further. The home page was stable. All other websites open immediately.

Re: Future Concepts and Traditions.
I feel that with an aging demographic and the continuous output of new models that the hobby now is more about accumulating/collecting rather than using the items we have. In my case the continuous output of new models has left me feeling lethargic about the items as mental saturation point has been...

Re: Hattons website issue on Google Chrome
Alex, many thanks. Perhaps like the recent Rails security issue on Chrome which corrected itself after a few days as it did almost twelve months ago as well, the issue with Hattons may be temporary (fingers crossed). Now this is getting stranger. If I search say, Hornby OO locomotives and without op...
