Re: Hattons FAIL

Personally I think Hornby have made the classic mistake. Instead of being eternally grateful that COVID has boosted sales with people being stuck inside, they've just decided to milk everyone by trying to cut out the discounters. They may be in for a big shock now people have other things to do outs...

Re: Hattons FAIL

Hah the next recession will do for that system. Try holding back stuff from Tier 3 shops when you can't even shift the stuff you gave to Tier 1. People will buy what's cheapest and they'll have to take sales where they can get them rather than pick and choose.

Re: Triang R357

There was another problem with these mechanisms whereby the plastic axle ends would wear down, thereby placing the full weight of the loco on the worm drive. This caused very jerky movement while the motor tried to overcome the friction. I actually found 2 of these motors over the weekend that I ha...

Re: bought Atlas Diesel but received some butchered gizmo!

She's obviously an amateur to undersell it like that. I'd stick it back together and stick it back on. It hasn't had "mods", its been " kit-built to a professional standard with a sealed for life motor that requires no access for maintenance". black nail polish erm……"chemica...

Re: Time to sell Bath Queen Square, but how or where?

All depends if you've got the time or inclination to sell separately. A friend of mine inherited his dad's N gauge layout and was offered £600. It was in bad condition with many loco's non-working or missing parts but I offered to sell it for him when I could be bothered and currently he's made abou...

Re: Detailing

A search picked up a detailing kit by Craftsman for the Mainline class 45. No. DK16. Whether that would translate to your model or includes the buffer beams I don't know (edit: possibly from this thread: https://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index ... g-service/

Re: BBC NEWS WEBSITE

That's the trouble with these new expensive modern trains. Give it 6 months and half the motors will burn out, all the detailing will fall off and the axles will be wobbly. 8)

Re: Triang R357

Evening All I recently purchase a Triang R 357 as a non runner. I managed to get it to run but it was very noisy on the straight and would not go slowly. I wondered if this was a characteristic of the magadheison, It then stopped altogether. On taking the motor apart I noticed that some small bits ...

Re: Modelmaster Jackson delays

Never bought direct before, but I've bought his stuff 2nd hand so I know its decent quality. Reading that RM thread is a bit of an eye-opener to be honest. As you say, he's a one man band who's getting on a bit and not in the best of health from what I can gather, and if he fancies doing stuff like ...

Re: Modelmaster Jackson delays

Yeah that was my main motivation for putting it on here as I hadn't seen the RM thread until today unfortunately. If I had I probably would have ordered what I wanted from Fox's who I've used before, or another supplier. I guess I've not been waiting half as long as a lot of people but it does annoy...

Modelmaster Jackson delays

Just a heads up to anyone thinking of ordering from Modelmaster Jackson to be wary about the delays they're experiencing. On the site they state 8- 20 working days for items being sent due to COVID and its been 30+ for me now. More worrying is you can't get through to them. Either you get a message ...

Re: locomotive "full service"

As far as lubrication goes. Two items if one can't get access to proper model railway lubricants. I have read that bicycle lithium grease (The creamy white coloured grease. Do not try any other bicycle grease as the red grease (Can't remember its name) used to be corrosive as it would mildly burn m...

Re: locomotive "full service"

Just done a full stripdown of a long time stored Triang Baltic tank this afternoon and thought i'd give a shout-out for the new (to me anyway) miracle cleaner T-Cut. Was very slow on full power and didn't really run at all on half power but cleaned the commutator, the wheels and the contacts and it ...
