bought Atlas Diesel but received some butchered gizmo!

Post by meehow »

I made many model train purchases on auction site.
Most successful.
This one is not.

Advertised as having some minor issues and a good runner, I was happy for a project.
Received. Opened. Put on track.
Quite jerky running with no response to anything below 9V. Needs a push every now and then so not a good runner (?).
Alight, service time. The horror begins:
- body is glued to chassis,
- chassis is lima not atlas, the loco is very light, no sign of flywheels nor quality motor,
- chassis is painted with black nail polish, black smears on the body too,
- bogies have been butchered by cutting off couplings mounts,
- body is chipped where someone was trying to open it (the glue holds strong!).

Definitely the worst train purchase. Probably the worst online purchase to date in general. The other candidate being the purchase of covid face masks which smelled of petrol and would make one dizzy when wearing.

"Some mods which may need attention." I'd prefer the petrol soaked masks. :o

On the brighter side, how many people can boast that as a door stop.

Doesn't respond to less than 9 volts? You ingrate, just be glad that isn't 27 volts!!

Clearly, this is a case of the Karmic Model Railway Gods evening up the score, for all those successes you've heretofore enjoyed.

I once received an SD24 that was missing the motor entirely. I guess I was supposed to pull it along with a string. Worse yet, it was a gift for a friend in the UK. When I inquired with the eBay seller, he told me to take a long walk off a short pier, only not so politely.

If it significantly differs from the description, then 'return to vendor' is the sensible choice.

Only one thing to do if she won't agree to a refund: go to ebay for a refund or if you paid by paypal (the most sensible option) set them on her too. I really detest people that simply unload junk on to others.

Yes, return to seller, "not as described".

She's obviously an amateur to undersell it like that. I'd stick it back together and stick it back on. It hasn't had "mods", its been " kit-built to a professional standard with a sealed for life motor that requires no access for maintenance". black nail polish erm……"chemically treated to prevent Mazak rot."

My problem was is that I had it shipped directly to the UK from the States, and only upon arrival was it discovered to be absent a motor.
I did try to get eBay to resolve it, but forget their excuse, but I was declined.

I can't see why ebay would have refused you help, but what about paypal?

The loco on the eBay link seems to have Lima H0 scale class 33 bogies.

Ebay now almost always sides with the buyer and in fact, it is almost as rare as finding hen's teeth they dont find for the buyer. If EBay havent upheld a dispute in the buyer's favour, a dispute must pre date it's policy of the last 4 years at least.
