8 Pin to Next 18 Connector

Post by thirdline »

Hi all, I’ve picked up an 8 pin plug with a lead going to a Next18 socket, not sure what make it is. I’m curious to know is there a right and a wrong way round to fit a Next18 decoder? Also there are three wires coming from the Next 18 plug, two brown and a purple one, does anyone know what these are for please?
Any help would be gratefully received, thanks in advance,
Mick.

Next18 is an 'only fits the right way round' format if I understand correctly. (Fitting the decoder, the engagement felt a little less than positive, but even in the one where the socket is vertical - so no gravitational assistance in keeping it engaged- there's no 'fell out' problem.

(Good feature as seen in the three 'DCC Ready' RTR OO models I have with this decoder socket, it defines the void required for the decoder to fit. None of that nonsense of 'DCC Ready' locos having decoder sockets with insufficient (accessible) voids to actually take the decoder.)

If you enter 'next18 pinout' in your search engine of choice you will get an array of diagrams to look at, which hopefully will give guidance to what those three extra wires can be used to operate.
