Best way to sell a collection quickly

Post by LittleReggie »

Hi,

I need to sell off of my small collection of N scale locos, rolling stock, set track, controllers, complete train sets, etc as a job lot. Nearly everything is boxed and in mint condition. It's a mixture of DC and DCC. I imagine it must have all cost around £500 to £1,000 when new, possibly more.

I was hoping my local model rail shop would buy it or sell it on for me, but they don't offer this service. What's the best way to do this quickly and with the least hassle? I don't have time to sell items individually on the usual online auctions.

Thanks.

Try an auction house that specialise in model railways or a shop that advertises it buys complete collections. Don't expect a large amount of cash !!

If I may suggest, you need to decide what is your bottom line for the job lot you're selling. They may have cost £500 - £1000 to buy but selling them, you probably will not get near the top end of your estimation and even your bottom might leave you disappointed.

If you dont want to sell separately or as a job lot on internet auction sites, your only other viable option is find another model shop such as Rails, TMC etc and see what they will offer. The issue there is the price they give will be in relation to the mark up they want to add for re sale.

Thanks for the advice.

I'm in two minds whether to sell or hang on and hope for better times. At least it doesn't take up a huge amount of space.
